VZ8 i believe. ever since i sold my s6000 i've kept my ears to the ground, but not a peep. anyone any idea or heard any rumblings?

i got alot of sample cds and .akp files which simply don't translate well with the few soft-samplers i've tried, even through cdextract.

Try to convert to sf2 (I use awave), then again
import those into your sampler.
Should work fine then.

Let me know

The only info I could find gave a date of August 2003, which obviosly didn't happen. I hope Akai haven't shelved the project Confused

The latest info is that it's apparently been put "on hold", and AKAI would rather put their efforts into hardware than software.

That's not to say it won't appear at some stage though. But I'd be doubtful you'll see it this side of 2004.

shame, with the software market seemingly making samplers redundant (apart from mpc1000, luckily by akai) i thought they would have taken the plunge to at least get on the bandwagon with a product.

will it be a case of too little too late by the time it arrives. even they manage to match the then current crop (who would then be in their maybe 4th incarnation), who'd want to switch.

more fool them and goddamit from me

Why stick with hardware? Because it's typically easier to maintain and doesn't crash, or not nearly as often (My EMu E64 sure liked to crash when you really started to do editing though.)

And even if it NEVER comes out, they really aren't going to 'be up a creek'. We still have a VERY small corner of the market guys. Money is still in the hardware, and still will be for a VERY long time to come. Put simply, people DON'T want to fuck with a computer to write music. They want to walk up to their keyboard, turn it on, and it just works, period. Hang around at the counter of a keyboard department for a little bit and just listen to the average joe asking questions. It's very painfully apparent that people are still not interested in doing everything on their computers, if ANYTHING on their computer.

i think they have made the right choice. too much competition and entering the market too late. kontakt 1.5's going to be killer.

It will be if they sort out the layer switching...

...and it actually works.

Look how quickly V-Station got cracked, I wouldn't be surprised if the other companies (Korg?) are using that as an indicator. After all, the VZ8 seemed to be working fairly well last January at the Winter NAMM, I can't imagine it needed 10 more months of work to get finished.
