I say 249 bucks is too much money no matter how good it sounds- I have many subtractive synths that will sound similar enough.

To my ears unique synths (commercial) are Discovery, VAZ, Malstrom (from Reason package) and now CS80V and OSCar.All mentioned above toys(ex. last two of course) I have Smile

I'm inclined to agree. You can have too many synths. Unless you're seriously into sound design.

Scot will undoubtedly get both. Laughing

I was pondering this very same dilemma myself... until today.

Most likely the ImpOSCar for me - because IT will probably work Wink The current state CS-80V demo is unusable for me in FL Studio!

And I need some dosh ready for the Audiorealism Bassline any time soon too. Toys, toys, toys...!

Thanks for the compliment! Actually, I have been doing CS80 patches, but I am so busy that they are taking some time. I will definitely get them to Arturia, though, so they will be made available for download at some point.

I don't really see $250 as being expensive - if I convert to $NZ it comes to around $500 - from what I used to pay for UK prices (which is probably where you're most likely to get an OSCar) I'd pay anything from $2400 for a good condition OSCar and maybe $3000 for a CS80 (if I could find one anywhere to buy at all)

Add to that the fact Imposcar will be polyphonic as opposed to duophonic and $500 is pretty good value. With the CS80V you don't get all the performance benefits of a real CS80, but as I mentioned, you'd be lucky to buy one at any price - people just don't sell 'em that often (maybe that could just be because they are bloody good synths and worth having and keeping?)

Add to that the fact that OSCars were notably dodgy for breaking down as far as the midi side of things - at some stage you would have to get a real one fixed. Same with a CS80 which are horrendously expensive to get fixed. With the plugins, they will still work when you upgrade your PC so basically because they are software...they will always work.

Add to that .... G-Media made a damn good sim of the Oddysey, so there's no reason that Imposcar won't be just as realistic (and the MP3s show they are definitely on the right track) - CS80s and OSCars are still very desirable synths not only because of nostalgia value but the fact they are two of the best synths ever made with regard to sound ... and that includes most of the new h/w synths and s/w synths that simply cannot compete with those sounds.

$1000 NZ for 2 synths that'd cost me over $5500 in real life sounds pretty bloody exceptional to me! You pay peanuts, you generally get monkeys - that's why other synths like Junos and Jens and Poly6s are two a penny and easily cheaply recreatable by alot of other cheap or free plugins.

Hold on, has an ImpOscar demo been released? I know there's some MP3s on the G-Media site, but has anyone actually played with the VSTi yet, or are we assuming that it's just going to sound great (which I'm sure it will based on what Odissey users say about Oddity). Personally I'm holding out for the G-Media/Ohm Minimoog, now that's exciting (mind you I'm not an obscure analog synth freak and just make indie-pop tunes, so a good mini is all I need right now).
