Does anyone know how to get a mono track or mono input in Ableton Live?
I need to record a simple mono bass line into it, however all the inputs and tracks are stereo? From the manual, it seems like the only way to get a mono track is to record in from a mono source, but all my sources are automatically grouped as stereo?? I'm using a M-Audio Delta 66 card with Ableton Live. In Live, I have the device type set to "ASIO" and the device set to "M-Audio Delta ASIO", so its clearly in ASIO. The Delta 66 has 4 mono inputs, and according to the Delta manual, ASIO compatible software should recognize these each as 4 mono inputs. Live, however, is only seeing 2 Stereo track and doesn't seem to have an option to get more detailed (like the Connections screen in cubase). I've looked in all the usual places but can't find anything about it, so i had to resort to a MBP. Thanks! john

Live's layout is strictly stereo, which doesn't really make a differnce, since the same signal on L&R stereo channels plays back as a mono signal.
Use a Y-cable and connect it to Input 1/2 of your audio card.

so theres no way to have Live distribute a mono signal in one channel across both stereo channels or cleanly record in a mono track?
the Y-cable is a good suggestion if need be, but its such a dirty solution ... and i know that simply panning doesn't work. i know Live is generally for arranging samples, but not being able to cleanly record in anything mono seems like a pretty ridiculous shortcoming :\ |
