Yo!
Im sitting here with 5 gigs of roughly organized sample data. Multisampled instruments mostly, some drumkits etc. I now need to create usable instruments from this. So I guess what Im looking for is a *free* soft sampler or a soundfont editor that doesnt need a SB card. I sure wont do it in DS404. Is cyberFREE ok for this kind of thing? Any Ideas?

Cyberfree is fine for wave files (but there are others with more options like TobyBears Helios).
For soundfonts I suggest RGC sfz There are also numerous synthedit VSTi's that do this.

aMused > Either you misunderstood me or sfz has more features than meets the eye.. My problem is mostly one of how to make the instruments, not play them. Like I got piano samples, 64 keys, 6 layers. I need some kind of tool designed for making a playable instrument from them. The file format doesnt matter much, but id prefer soundfont format since there is a the free player. Im sorry if I wasnt to clear in my first post

ditto on se. i'll help if you'll host finished product free for public :p tho i swear i saw some f/w sample converting app released 3~4 weeks ago that did wav to sf. check news items?

hmm, cant seem to find anything in the news. Im leaning towards plugging and old SB card into my puter just so I can use vienna. But, I got 2 cards in there already so Im still looking for options.
I diddnt know you could do stuff like this in SE though! ..and I guess I can release the resulting VSTi. Care to give me a quick description?

Sorry my misunderstanding. That's what I thought you meant at first - but then you said "So I guess what Im looking for is a *free* soft sampler or a soundfont editor that doesnt need a SB card" and mentioned CyberFree so I wasn't so sure and thought maybe a player that can save presets will do. I know of several editors that don't need a SBLive card - Awave studio can output in many formats inc sf2 and there's also Soundfaction Alive. Not free though.

se is modular, so ie. insert and connect pertinent modules, ie. midi>cv module, waveplayer modules, loads* of math and logic modules to attenuate for desirable performance. * because it's grate.
if you're familiar with modular concept (ie. routing lfo to various destinations ooh) and know your itmes tables you should make out okay. pretty much everything you could want is in prefabs, ie. basic sampler prefab for midi, wave module, amp envelope.. sfz does sound like it has a fair feature set.. and due ? to the compiling aspect se does run higher on cpu than ie. c++ tho it is nice to use the exact features you want if you're fussy about particular keyboard tracking, velo, aftertouch et c. things stuff misses sometimes :p - hate to do the wild goose chase thing, but i'm pretty sure there was a thread on that s/w in the 'other' forum.. it was touted as a sample format convertor, and noted it said something aobut wav to sf with velo split arranging capabilities and such.. supposed to work with many formats.. don't use samples enough myself to have wanted it.. anyone?

Ok. Thanks for the input guys.
This is kind of a big undertaking so I have to think it through.

or chainer possibly
if you load samplers into it you can export as sf2 cant you?

.wav or sf2 exports. | ||

The best thing to do (IMO) is go for a cheap SB card and Vienna. Sure, SE can do it, but if you've never used it before it'll take ages, and the CPU hit will be high. Vienna is quick and easy to use. |
