AuthorTopic: Algorithmic Synth !

Hi All

I was at the SynthEdit user forum at Yahoo and saw a post on this. Its called "Wheel of Fortune" by H. G. Fortune aka G. Hager

Its an ALGORITHMIC Synth! Two voices, each with OSC, VCF, 2 Envelopes and LFO attached to a sequencer with built in scales, key notes and other parameters for changing the durations of the output. It can all be synced to tempo host along with synced delays. You can get some great sounding patterns pumping out of this thing! I put the whole thing on my UC-16 knob box ( using Energy XT) and what a performance synth for live work! Highly recommended. I don't know of any other "commercial" or otherwise synths that can do what this does ( anybody else know of any?)

I am a big fan of algorithmic applications and you can download quite a few of them for the Atari platform on my site (see sig) which can be run on PC/Mac under emulation. I also use Tim Thompson's KeyKit, a wonderfull app ( for PC)as well as lost of Fractal music apps. I am pleased to see this kind of idea being evolved on softsynths. Check out this new synth here:

Well Tim, I think your patches are cool, and if you think this synth is cool then it must be VERY cool! Wink

Downloading now, thanks for the heads up! Very Happy

Thanks, Tim. That's one cool little machine! Cool
It's fun just having it burbling away while I write this! Cool While it has quite a few possibilities on it's own, I also tried using it with Chainer's Preset Lab! Yowza! Smile

Another nice addition is to use KJAERHAUS AUDIO's recently released Golden Modulator GM-1 on the 'Sirens in My Head' preset. Way cool, junior!

Surprised Surprised Very Happy

Hi everyone

REALLY like this! Super fun to play "at the controls". But I'm a newbie with a newbie question...how can I record this in Tracktion?

I have to run off to work so if I don't respond to any answers, thanks in advance.

Thanks - great find. I love aleatory music.

Look out for his "Surrealistic Ambient Music Sequencer" - sounds even better!

yeah, i've got several algorithmic vsti up for free, but you can ignore me because i'm a bitchy suffragist, and we can't have anyone using something made by someone who disagrees with what important people say.

...and I think there great as well. Very envocative stuff. Members here can look on your VST page under Compositional Tools.:

I think this is an unexplored territory which deserves some attention. We have lots of VA, Samplers, ect but not this kind of algorithmic stuff.

Hey I sang the praises of your synths a while back. The more people making interesting Synthedit stuff like this the better.

Funny... as I read this I'm listening to a little Java program my brother wrote for me which spits out endless random melodies. Its playing an accordion patch at the moment, and sounds rather awful.

I hope to eventually integrate this into a Reaktor patch I'm working on... Very Happy

Now off to check out this newfangled algorithmic VSTI...

Cool beans! Very Happy So kinda like a Step Modulator with a brain? Wink But I can't seem to latch it to Orion's BPM? All 'Vanna' gives me is 110, 120, and 130 BPM's, with the 'fine' to go inbetween? Or maybe that's what you meant Tim.

No sweat, that's what samplers are for! Very Happy

the button next to the bpm button labled in/ex is for switching the clock from internal to external. although the display does not show the host's tempo, the internal sequencer will sync to the host's clock with this function switched on.

btw, if you hover over a control, you'll get a pop up description of it.

Thanks Ugo! Very Happy My eyes must be failing in my old age, but I could barely make those initials out when I first opened it. Soon as you said IN/EX - it was like 'Duh' for me! Embarassed And a very cool feature with the descrip's above knobs as well.

It'll take time to tinker with 'The Wheel', but I think I can figure out the phrase now Pat?

"Wh_t Is A Very Fre_king _wesome Plug In" I'd like to buy a 'A' Pat please.... Laughing

this this is great! abstract ambience 4 ever Very Happy

the only thing I`m missing in the ability to use my midi keyboard Confused
I get no sound when pressing a key, only when I push the RUN button. if I want to change the key of the seq, I need to change it with the mouse in the GUI...

am I missing something here?

Hi all

Got inspired last night and created this little one minute Jam using WOF. Heres the info:

=============================

Wheels and Cameleons
A fusion jam
Tim Conrardy
Algorithmics: Wheel of Fortune VSTi by H. G. Fortune aka G. Hager
http://www.flomo-art.de/se/
Leads, Basses and Pads created with Cameleon 5000 VSTi ( Camel
Audio) http://www.camelaudio.com
Drums done with Stienberg LM-4 MarkII VSTi

This demo starts off with a Cameleon format filter sweep pad followed
by analog bass and a incredible distorted singing lead . Algorithmics by WOF
and drums added as well.

==================
This uses the new "wheel of fortune" algorithmic VSTi as a background
(and inspiration) of this somewhat informal jam.

I have had a lot of fun with this plugin but couldn't record it. How can I record it in Cubase SX 2.0?

well, I don't know if this will help, but in EnergyXT, I had to play a MIDI note ( from my controller) and hold it, and it recorded. If I did not hit a note, it would not record. TRy that! Very Happy

I couldn't get it to record in Tracktion either, but all the parameters can be automated in Tracktion and those CAN be recorded, so that works great. Hope that helps.

Unfortunately it didn't work. If I hold the key on my MIDI keyboard controller, it only records one long note.

I setup the plugin as usual with soft synths in Cubase SX on midi tracks: In - MIDI keyboard, Out - fortune.
In mixer, in vsti channel I can see the stereo signal bars moving up and down. In MIDI channel settings, in inspector there no signal coming.

There must be some way to record it in Cubase SX. Am I missing something?

Perhaps we just need a microphone to record it. Wink
SaviorNeeded
Posted: 14th November 2003 00:48
Hey Purna

I don't know Cubebase at all, but in my previous post about Tracktion I should have pointed out that all the parameters can be automated and the results can be exported as an audio file. Maybe Cubebase can do it that way? My mic stand is broken, so I had to do it this way! Smile

I am not sure if I understand you. As far as I know automating parameters of MIDI track won't bring any results if the signal from VSTi is not there. It is possible to export to audio only recorded MIDI part.

That's what I was trying to explain in my previous post. And no, not the one about the microphone. Wink

..n1 knows where the "Surrealistic Ambient Music Sequencer" is.

the Wheel of Fortune is a great bubble generator .. Rolling Eyes

..but in FL-Studio i think the timing is not exactly enough!

not at the moment. we havent discussed anything about that yet.

what he mentioned on the list the other day (breaking up some of surrealistic's componants into seperate vsti's) was the first i had heard of that too.
