Hi Gang
I want to get into using Akai Sample CD's I would just like your thoughts on the best SoftSampler to use, I don't need anything fancy its just for playback in Cubase SX2. Thanks

I use Halion. It's OK for converting Akai (S1000 and S3000). I'm not so convinced about converting E-mu and Roland with it though.

The AKAÏ conversion from the EXS sampler seems to be OK...

I think pretty much all softsamplers offer Akai support so there are plenty of options. For a cheap solution you could always try Extreme Sample Converter ($44), convert from Akai S1000/3000 to soundfonts and play them with sfz (freeware soundfont player). I’m on a Mac, mind you, so I can’t vouch for how well this combination would work. /Yoss

kontakt is the only one of them that i have tried that doesnt have to load a patch onto your hardrive before you can demo it - ie you flick through your akai trying out patches not samples - it loads them to a temp file that is deleted if you dont decide to save them as kontakt files
this saves so much time and i think the akai conversion is upposed to be very good

you can download Reload for free from the props site if you own reason, but I don't have any akai format cds to test it with

I haven't tried the very latest release of VSampler with Akai cds, but I did use the prelease candidate to load some Akai cds, and it worked very well.
I like it for working with Akai files--it loads them directly into RAM and recognizes all of the partitions without having to save anything to your hard disk. The import, for me, was clean, with all the parameters recognized correctly.
