in a little spelunking i discovered that fxpansion
has previous unsupported but freely available versions of their drum samplers

http://www.fxpansion.com/skunkworks/

as i'm on record of being a little disppointed in how Cake's P-5 Velocity drum sampler sounds, I was wondering if DR-005 would be worth a go.
If I wasn't at work I'd just do it, but since I am I'll ask questions instead.

Does anybody recall DR-005?
Does it work well with wav file samples?
Easy to build kits and set midi note triggers?
Channel assignments?

I still have the DR-005 but much prefer the free RMF from Linplug(still use it even though I own it's big brother RMIII).The DR-005 doesn't allow layering of samples unless you assign two or more pads to the same midi note and then they are not velocity layered. It was easy to create kits and assign them to the 4 outputs.I don't remember what bit depth or sample rate it supports.Since the RMF is no longer available the DR-005 may now be one of the better alternatives.Keep in mind I haven't used it for a long long time so my memories may be a bit hazy. What the heck it's free, when you get home give her a try. Very Happy

I have found that it will load any wave I throw at it. It seems quite versatile and easy to learn. As an added plus I found that if load from the individual pads ( as opposed to using import ), it will even load the RMF sounds (or any wave for that matter). I like it.

Used it for a while - great freeware! - but now use the SR-202 from Computer Music magazine instead ... more ability to individually vary each sound.

thanks for the links and comments
i have since discovered the source of my underlying disappointemnt with P-5's Velocity in comparison to FL Studio's rendering of the same wave samples.
FL Studio samples were running considerable compression in the master out -24 to -30 db threshold, 75 ms attack, 75 to 200 msec release, 10 to 16 db gain
this has a nice effect of smarter smack and considerable boom. I can duplcate it well enough using Classic Compressor and the same range of settings

I looked in channels for fx, but I hadn't earlier looked in master out. It didn't make much sense to me to put fx there for the benefit of the drum line when it would apply to eveything else, but what do i know?
The drums sound good, everythig else follows.

anyway i was wrong to diss Velocity as sub-par drum sampler and apolgize to any and all Cakewalk employees and supporters.
