AuthorTopic: About Phantom GUI

I'm gonna download the demo version right now for hearing it, but I must say, its GUI is disappoiting...
I'm sure many like discovery GUI, but making another synth which basically looks realy much like it looks like the GUI designer took the easy way.
While arguru as a DSP coder been working very hard on algorithms for the synth it could have been nice had the GUI designer invested some time on some new GUI.
Each synth is unique and in my personal opinion should also look that way...
Gonna hear the demo now Smile

Heard the demo, as usually arguru makes incredible synths.
Though my style is trance and fm sounds are more classic in my opinion ( I found discovery more suitable for my style of music ) , but I've found some excellent presets which make excellent bassline for my style of music.
Usually my problem is finding a VSTi which makes good basslines, Phantom got great ones and in general, Awesome sound, certainly worth a buy with the 60% discount for 2 pruducts Very Happy

I will say John and me agreed to make it look like it is.

There was no easy way intended, just making our synth line a similar look and feel, which you don't seem to like much it seems.

It would be nice if they were diff colours even. Keep the knobs and layout, to keep the theme thru out, but change the backgound colours to give each synth its own identity

Just an idea Wink

BTW, did you get my mail? Cant get to the old beta site to upload banks

hmm... no... no at all.
You said that apparently I dont like your products GUI, I Like discovery, Vertigo, and etc.
As someone suggested, even a different color could have been nice , but still, thats my personal opinion.

In my opinion such an approach is a mistake, giving different products samiliar looks and feel... differnet products should have different looks and feel, each product should have its own identity.

I partially agree with Kriminal, even different color would have been better than no change at all.
Take for example Native instruments Kontakt & Intakt , these products basically look the same cause they are almost the same product.
But for example FM7 , ABSynth, Reaktor, Pro-53 , Kontakt... Each one is different, each one got its own style, I personally would have liked to see Phontom own GUI characteristic and not a "discovery skin"...
But anyway, I Like Discodsp company very much, I Like your products, and what matters the most is the sound.
You guys develope top products and once Vertigo gonna support what I've read arguru gonna add to it I'm planning on buying it, so in general I hope my post in here is taken with a good spirit because those are products I'm planning on buying so I wrote what I believe could be improved, if I didn't like the products sound I wouldn't have bothered to comment about the GUI, but I do like the sound so I did make the effort of writing the post in here hopefully it'll change something.
Anyway, I wrote enough for today, have a good day guys Smile

Exactly, in your opinion Smile

I actually think that most people would disagree with me (nothing new there), however I personally like it when a company keeps the same look and feel across their products.

I like it that all the discodsp stuff is that shade of blue.

I wouldn't like it if the new rgc synth was this sort of blue, i'd say it was 'DiscoDSP Blue'.

I don't know why I feel this way, but it makes it easier for me to think of the family of DiscoDSP synths. A new one comes out and I think 'ah yes, this feels right at home with the others'. It's like each new release adds more capabilities to the 'DiscoDSP Toolbox', but they are all tools from the same maker.

That makes me think of a good point. I bet that auto mechanics are happy that all of the tools made by 'Snap-On Tools' share a similar look and whenever possible are made of the same materials. Imagine how confusing the toolbox would look if every Snap-On tool had a different color scheme and design philosophy.

Again, this is just me and my personal preferance. I think most will prefer it the other way around. I just like a GUI that makes me feel as 'at home' as fast as possible. Now if they all SOUNDED the same it would be a different story completely...

indeed another color (thinking about a hot one like yellow or orange) with the same design would be really nice.

and nicer would be to be able for the user to choose the color from a limited choice.

i mean, it's impossible in the real world, but not with VSTi's !

I don't care so much about the colors of DiscoDSP synths... what I really enjoy in their GUI is the ease of use. discodsp synths are the only ones I really spent time to tweak them. All the controls are very clear and straightforward. It is nice to have the same look and feel in all their synths when you want to go deeper and tweak sounds.
crazed one

I'm with Rik,

If it sounds good and works good then who cares about the color? If it was ultra bright green and straining on the eyes then I might have some complaints.

Please keep in mind that - other than for Discovery - this one does relate in colour to the one it tributes to....

brilliant idea..the layout of the knobs and everything is spot on, but even if like synth1, we could simply cange the main colour, it would make the world of difference. also, i ask AGAIN, why didn't you include discovery style on board patch browsing in this?
