AuthorTopic: Are The Authorization Codes Linked To Hardrive Or CPU/Mother

Well, it appears that my new Dell computer has some hardware problems. They are going to come over and replace the CPU, motherboard and ram. They may replace some other things, but not the hard drives.

Since my boot drive hasn't changed, will I need any new authorization codes? Are any authorization codes linked to CPU/Motherboard, rather than hard drive?

I think you should just try your existing codes first, and contact the developers privately if an auth code doesn't work -- they probably would not want to announce the details of their authorization schemes.

I think these are the only that might create id's based upon computer hardware:

Sampletank DJ
Plugsound (Synth Soundbank)

But also:

Everything with Sonar 2.2 XL
Cakewalk FxPansion adapter
Slayer 2
Virtual Guiatrist and VG EE
RCG's Z3ta+ and Pentagon

Hmmm. That may cover the non-freebies.

In the coming weeks I will have a searchable database at my site that will answer questions such as these – you will be able to see what type of protection the product uses and if you don’t know what that protection is linked to you will be able to read a detailed description – plus a link to any third party companies that made locks for the developers to use with their software.

Also issues that arise will be documented and users can express their experiences there too for others to see and learn from - And there is nothing to stop you expressing your experience there now – just pop in leave a post – any extra details will help everyone I would have thought – especially grouped all in one set of forums.

http://controversial-audio.com/

Its only been up a week if that so still a bit empty.

As well as that the site will feature important parts of the music making process ect.

Lots of stuff to do on the site yet though so will keep everyone involved busy before it reaches potential.

That’s just bizarre especially important to be open about hardware based locks.

I think fruity as well, at least to get a reg code.
but all of this is crap!
I put reaktor 4 on my my new computer a week and a half ago, and haven't heard from NI yet.
At least installing ST2 was almost immediate.
But for the most part, I think changing hard or cpu, or both together would call for new authorization for most that use this sort of crap protection.

I think rene's plugs are just codes, and the sampletank stuff is tied to hardware/motherboard information. I don't know for certain however, so best to PM ik support, and rene, and if you use any spectrasonics stuff, spectrum

You think Sampletank DJ is tied to CPU/Motherboard, rather than hard drive?

I believe FLS only did that for version 4.0 and did away with challenge-response activation in 4.1. Their policies were reasonable but they still had technical problems and got a good share of "This stinks, I can't register, give me my money back, 3.56 was better" etc. I bought FLS at 3.56, and didn't have any problems authorizing three different machine for FLS 4.0 - but I'm still glad it's gone.

The only music products I have that presently use C/R are Acid Pro 4 and bundled Soundforge Studio 6. I didn't know better at the time, and I hardly use them. Unfortunately C/R is becoming more popular - both GPO and EWQLSO ship with Kontakt for example. For what I write, I can do without, but I would have otherwise considered GPO.

There's an awful lot of products that don't have current status - just "unknown" - in the write-ups.

Pentagon, z3ta, Slayer and the 2 VG titles will be fine, just use your serial number, they are not associated to any specific machine.

The other stuff, I have no idea about! Sorry...

Good luck Smile

Yeah, I think the big question is whether I have any problems with Sampletank DJ or Plugsound. We shall see.
