| Author | Topic: a VSTi Sampler that has an automatable loop-start-point? |

Hi
I'm mostly working with EXS24 and I realized I can't control the Loop start point of a sample via a midi controller (like my old EPS 16 could easily do). I tried Kontakt, but it seems that with all of it's vesatility, it cannot handle this task. is there another soft sampler out there that can allow me to control the loop-start-point while playing (and also automate the change)?

yup... what he said.
for free, helios, concretefx may have something for you.. i and others have made vst like this with synthedit.. the current problem is the se module that loads wavs doesn't loop and the loop doesn't load, so ie. in mine there's this goofy sample loading scheme, which means the first few seconds of audio when you hit play are silent.. needs more thinking than you wanta do.. :p still, fun, but not ideal. and the engine only time compresses in the opposite-to-play direction imo tobybear kicks ass.. but to be honest the first helios 2 (loop mod capable) sounded a bit mp3ish (moan bitch) haven't tried the new release. still sounded cool depending on needed contrast w/ source. apart from that, it's a DAMN shame your $300 software is a useless piece of crap.. emagic obviously need some evil sickness unleashed upon them in recompense.. tho *afaik* your experience w/ kontakt is erroneous? i've been sworn left right center to that it does loop mod.. it bloody well better for that price. check concrete soon, or get a mirage and change the button contacts to barrels with little levers so you can spin them around.. it's like hellooooo out there why are we still in 1983????????? cronox - ought to do more :p my stuff can do stretch and mod at the same time, why not cx? toss on some lfos and egs ie. crystal! (then there's always compiling to soundfont and crystal's granulator..)

EPS16 and ASR10 could do the SAMPLE START not the loop start as far as I remember...
Anyway... | |

The ASR-10 (and, I think, the EPS-16 Plus) have Transwave Synthesis, which is a kind of loop position modulation (it only uses single-cycle loops, though). They also have something called LoopStart-X, which is a loop start modulation.
Sorry, just going for 500 posts here. /Yoss

Oh, buggerish - thought I was past this double post nonsense. /Yoss

Hi there
As Xoxos said I've made something similar, not quite what you mean but anyway it might be fun Mooper at http://www.concretefx.com/Mooper.zip This loads in a sample and you set two loop start and finish positions. Two different LFO's modulate between these start and finish position to create wave - travelling synth type effects. If the start position is after the finish position then the loop play backwards. I'm currently also looking at a proper wavetravelling type synth, see what happens in the next couple of months Cheers Jon : ConcreteFX

I was looking for something that did this as well. I'm happy the topic was brought up. I'm also surprised that none of the big samplers offer this possibility. While Kontack and Battery can change the start point of a loop, it maintains the same length, which means it shifts the end point as well which sucks. Reaktor does this as well.. Loop start point should not shift the end point. I guess that's why NI refer to it as Loop Start Point and Loop Length (meaning the end point).. or am I just missing the obvious?
I got fed up and made something with bidule that worked.. but I'm gonna check out helios.

thank you all for your thorough answers
i tried helios, but it was a little to rough for me (sound wise and controlable wise). I found that cronox did exactly what i wanted with the extra benefit of being able to control the loop end point with the same modwheel movement, thus being able to enlarge a tiny loop in both directions... here's something my old EPS couldn't do... niiice! |
