I finally got it all working (you have to now copy the files AFTER installing the main software) over to where you want the samples to go, so this was a little "discouraging".....but the sound of this/these pianos!!!!!!!!
Love
To me, it is worth 179$! (audiomidi.com......now that I think about it, Russ ought to give me some customer finder fees Laughing )

I got my early christmas present and you should get this vst.

off to make some demo's. Cool

I want a Yamaha C7! Crying or Very sad I'd like to hear some demos though. Smile The Bos has always been too 'dark' to my ears. Steinway was pushing it already, but there was no C7 out at the time... If I just waited.... Oh well. Gotta keep the economy running. Smile

And the exact reason why I get so vague on 'what's the best piano' discussion. Wink

I have a big problem in life. I need more time HiHi

(once I got it installed, should have read the new notes but anyways.) I played all night. Cool
I plan to knock something up tonight, and this weekend I have plenty of time to get some out, plus other things I am working on.....

I'm into dark! Dark and minimal: Satie meets Tim Story. Can you detail (when time permits of course)your experience a bit more with regard to your RAM, how disk streaming performs, et al. I want a moody solo piano with depth and soul but I've only got 768 RAM. Will I definitely need more to run this if my polyphony is say 6 notes max, mostly 3 or 4? Thanks!

Gizmo, hello.
I only have right now a gig of ram (so not to far off from your setup). Disk streaming performs very well! (there was one update I downloaded and installed before I loaded any patch for the bosen., maybe this made a difference, I really don't know).
Once I installed dfd and loaded an instrument, it was like a dream to play live....I can even play live on my audiophile 2496 at 336 BUFFERS and no clicks, pops, etc! Surprised
This piano is dark for most, but in the higher transpositions and keys, it sounds lovely, and real mind you. I tried to make an audio demo for you and others who wondered, but I got sidetracked by other obligations I have. I do however, have all weekend to make some music for her, and I will do just that! (for if no one else, me Laughing )

Also the cool thing about this dfd, is you can set the max 'reserve voices' to 256 (meg I am assuming) and she still sounds lovely!!
anyways, a GREAT buy at this price (even better for me, since it is my christmas gift)
Hope this helps you some.

My guess would be polyphony, not megs, without looking at the manual.

Gizmo, the great thing about dfd, and other products like Gigastudio, is that it loads in just a few k of every file (64k for Giga for example) of the sound, and waits to see if you trigger it, then start streaming it off disk. Minimum specs is 256 megs of ram according to their web page. Longs you got a decenlty fast drive, hopefully 7200 rpm, it should work without glitches. If you have a lower speced machine, don't expect to be running tons of other stuff though. You'll probably have to bounce down your track alone, then continue on for something that's really ram hungry if you don't have a lot of ram on your box.

very true here too. Yeah it only uses 17% when playing, but wait till you start adding other instruments and whatnot.....

Thanks very much for info. All this makes sense and sounds good, can't wait for demo. Very Happy

Anybody have this piano working on a Windows 2000/Cubasee SX2 system? I e-mailed them but haven't had a reply. They don't explicitly list Windows 2000 as a supported OS.
Thanks,
Lee

I've got the giga version of the PMI Bosendorfer 290, and I love it. It sure is a little mellow, but that's what I love about it Smile

Dont forget guy, that you can win it in our Post Piano Competition over at [ sectionz.com ]. Wink

This is definitely on my list, but I'm waiting a bit. Heard that the Steinway in GPO is really good too, so I might get GPO first and then the PMI.

Before I do either one (or any more vstis) I'm thinking I'll take a little detour and put together a vsti server first.

Sort of OT but the Steinway in GPO is great, IMHO. Started me on this pianoquest thing. Sonorous.

what's the steinway sound like? bright or dark?
steinway hammers can be voiced to sound about as bright as a yamaha, or as dark and mellow as the bosie. so, I'm wondering which one this sounds like.

Good question, Bluedad...

I'm thinking if the GPO Steiny is on the bright side and if the Bosendorfer is on the dark side, then with both, one could eventually have the best of both worlds.

Thinking maybe one might prove better in a mix, whereas the other might prove better solo?

Thing is, in both cases... can't you simply adjust the brightness to a certain degree (thinking in terms of the kompakt player facilities)? Or even if you're running it in Giga for that matter.

I suppose you're right there.
I remember steely dan's 'aja' used a bosendorfer, and that's certainly not a dark or mellow sound.
gosh, that piano sounded soooo good.

Bosendorfer pianos by nature are not dark sounding pianos, though some of the sampled Bosendorfer's that are available are rather dark sounding, mellow, and without the lively character and sound of a real Bosendorfer.

The Bardstown Bosendorfer is a true and accurate representation of the real Bosendorfer Imperial Model 290 concert grand piano that was sample recorded, which is a brighter sounding sampled piano compared to the other sampled Bosendorfer's that are available. The Bardstown Bosendorfer Imperial Grand plays, sounds, and feels like a real Bosendorfer Imperial Model 290 and sits extremely well in a mix with other instruments, in addition to being a beautiful solo piano as well. These other sampled Bosendorfer's, other than the Bardstown Bosendorfer, have been extensively filtered and processed with noise reduction, which makes for less lively and darker sounding pianos.

Unlike other sampled Bosendorfer's that are available which don't have all notes sample recorded, the Bardstown Bosendorfer has all notes sample recorded at all velocity levels and articulations of pedal up, pedal down, and release note off, and without the use of any pitch shifting of any notes.

There are many jazz, classical, and pop, demos of this beautiful sampled piano on the demo page of our web site.
