Does BFD operate like Groove Agent (i.e. plug in and play along with different kits and fills and playing styles) or more like a drum machine RMIV etc. that needs midi programming/input to produce a sound?

Hey morelia,
BFD does both very well. I traditionally favor the programming approach, but BFD has proven to do both ways well. When using BFD for typical MIDI programming, you have control over multiple MIDI keys (fully assignable) which map to different stroke types of a drum (for instance snare has sidestick/rimshot/hit/drag/flam) all split at many velocities. Furthermore, you can scale these dynamics per-drum or for the entire kit, and assign these scalings to MIDI controllers if desired. It's great for adding feel quickly when programming - without tweaking velocity values endlessly. as for the automatic and triggered groove manner - BFD has 1710 grooves 492 Fills that can trigger to host tempo and be deployed in a variety of ways. You can also load your own MIDI files in to this groove engine! One really fun thing is using both modes together - letting some groove go and add some variations and extra notes on the fly I'd download the manual from Fxpansion and check it out if you want more detailed info! Thanks Steve
I have just downloaded the manual and will have a read. Do you know if you can import your own samples. Like a sampler I guess but maybe just replace the snare or a crash or something? Paul

nope.. replacing the sound content with your own samples is impossible (and rather hard to do or have you samples recorded with all those mics????).... but you can replace single sounds with others.... take a look at the shockwave demo - it'll give you a good overview... but believe me when I say that the real thing (BFD that is) is way better
