AuthorTopic: Are we losing touch with our VSTi developers?
Rabid
Posted: 7th January 2004 19:03
When I first came to the forum a lot of developers posted in the Instruments forum. When I first came to KvR it seems that developers posted here very frequently. Dave, Mike, Squids and many others used to cover such topics as how they analyze analog oscillators and reproduce them digitally, or how they samples some instruments and fit them into products. Now it seems that William and Tick are about the only developers that frequent this forum. The rest seem to have gone to their corners, or in our case, their on KvR sub-forums and hardly appear in other locations. You cannot draw them out unless it is an opportunity to push their product when someone asks what to buy.

What happened? Is it a side effect of giving every person that releases a product their own forum here? Have we pushed them away with criticism? Do they feel safer when they stay on their own forums and have moderator powers? Do developers not like each other anymore and prefer to keep their distance from each other? Was it something I said?

BTW-spelling doesn't matter anymore, dont'cha know? Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Wink

Of course, he may have been throttling a developer in which case he mentioned that he was loosing touch.

Oops. Embarassed

heh heh. Fixed now. And since you brought that up, why are there so few (if any) female VSTi developers?

How about a phone call?

I mean, would it kill them to call once in a while? We never just talk anymore.

Not even a card on my birthday, for crying out loud. Crying or Very sad

do you still have contact to the supplier of your
washer? Wink

the CRM of "kvr-based" software-developers is
outstanding imho. on the other hand, the support
given by customers (presets, beta-testing, marketing)
is also remarkable. guess no serious developer
will lose contact to his/her posse.

And for God's sake, it's spelled God with a capital "G". Smile

I guess I picked the wrong night to try and start a serious discussion. That is another thing that seems to be changing here. Maybe I should have started yet another flame war thread instead.

YES, I wasn't sure about this. My native language
is german and we write all! nouns with a capital
letter, not just names. But if God is written with
a capital 'G' you consider it being a name, because there is only one God.
But I don't think so , as I'm not a christ (in fact I'm not religious at all), so please excuse writing god in future still with a 'g'. Razz

Embarassed - I just checked it and I was wrong here:

god is generally not written with a capital 'G'
only in connection with religious phrases
or in a strictly religious context.
And 'for God's sake' is such a phrase thus
I have to write it with a capital 'G'.

No! - You asked a question and you received an answer.
When someone jokes about a statement someone else
makes it generally means that he disagrees. Wink

Ok Rabid, I will take you seriously. Surprised I don't think that developers want to risk the negative publicity by posting in the sometimes very opinionated threads we get going here. They could come off as pompous or arrogant (Reminds me of a certain developer who just released a Dx7 clone Very Happy But at least he has the balls to stick to his guns regardless of some of the criticism he gets) So its much safer to not get involved..

You want to try building a website – it soon becomes apparent the way developers minds work. All developers featured at my site I have the greatest respect and admiration for - all of the top five developers that were voted by you too - I can see why - it shows All of them have come back to me with permission to display thier logos in the top five table bar one (IL still waiting for that). It’s been a mind opener and big learning experience for me to say the least.

That’s all I have to say on the matter.

Best regards,

Spe3d

Well, I can't speak for any of the others, but in my case it's two-fold - first, a simple case of time shortage (heck, I love getting involved in debates, but a good one can be very time consuming!), and second, a lot of the regulars around here have become such experts that developer participation in these kind of threads is almost redundant.

Not only that, but KvR has grown and grown - I'd love to see a bar chart of the forum traffic some time - and unfortunately there are just too many posts here to keep up with.

I try to check in regularly. But, I think there are more people able to answer questions these days which would have required a developer to answer a year ago.

If you crave my company though, stop by the Spectrasonics booth at NAMM Smile.
