It's really hard to choose :
Imposcar? Moog modular? Pro53? B4? Vstation? CS80V? Model-E? Threre a lot ! I think, Moog Modular is the best for me (cause it can generate a lot of different kind of sound)...but it's hard to choose...

vbass-it does exactly what it should

B4 is still my favorite. Sound, graphics, usefulness, and it is more convincing than $2000 hardware clones.

Well, strike the model-E off your list. Everything else you listed is better. The fundamental problem with classic emulation is that you only get one sort of thing. I mean, B4 is absolutely perfect at what it does, but you'd better have a rock band... Personally, I hate the interface to the moog modular.
Anyway, if you want a flexible virtual analogue emulation, V-station's probably the best. If you drop the word emulation, try Tera2, Albino or z3ta. If you drop VA, Reaktor.

I see I'm not the only one double posting. Danged zero-sized replies.

PingDXI - it emulates a vintage metronome

I really like the CS-80V. My only problem with it is that it occasionally coughs up it cookies (unstable). It has some really interesting sounds though and has a really steller UI for locating presets.
The Pro-53 is great fun too. Of these two the Pro-53 is probably more practical for day to day use. I think it matters what kind of music you create. The Pro-53 is great for Trance/Dance whereas I think the CS-80V would be creating more moody ambient or classical like pieces. The B4 just isn't my cup of tea even though it does lives up to is reputation as being as faithfull as it gets.

The PPG Wave 2.V-even hardware PPG users consider it a PPG.

I love it's sound Eric but for some reason the demo crashes in Cubase and Traction. I would love to demo it but now I'm paranoid. I got sick of having to reboot all the time. It's the only one I've ever had any trouble with.

The demo's the original version,Rick-it's VERY unstable with any W2k/XP system-to the point of being unusable The latest version(1.12)runs like a charm though ew

as far as acuracy goes, Oddity should probably be on the list too. i've never used an odyssey but apparently many owners of the real thing say its shockingly close to their hardware.

Oddity is really close to the second model Arp oddysey, all 3 versions of the Oddysey sound different, the first had a plagiarised Moog filter over which ARP were taken to court, so they changed it in version two and then again in version 3.The beauty about the modelling done by Ohmforce was that they modelled every part of the synth, not just the filters even down to the fact of including the amplifier gain control which is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorcycle

From what I've read from other forums, Prophet owners dont think Pro-53 sounds like the original. I still love it tho

I'm an old guitar player who didn't get into synths until just a few years ago, so I don't really have that much of an idea about how close any of these synths sound to the originals. However, I do know what my ears like to hear, and impOscar is the first of the vintage emulations that has really made me want to go out and buy it. Most of the others are nice too, but something about the sounds of that one really got my attention.

The Pro53 might have started out as Native Instruments trying to do a spot on Prophet emulation, but its moved on light years from that premise. All the new features NI added breathed life into something that could have ended up dull and boring. The problem with original Prophet owners is they have shelled out x amount of moolah on something that needs constant attention, wheezes like an old man, sounds completely different depending on what model you bought and revision, but looks good in photographs. The pro53(52) had the best filters on any virtual instrument (untill the Oddity and impOSCar arrived)its capable of producing the richest pad sounds you`ll ever hear and the most bruising leads and bass, you wouldnt think so by the majority of the patches that come with it most not even utilising the new features, but its still a beauty |
