Just got a marketing email....

Steinberg is selling Attack for 79 euros. There are only 25 units left then that looks to be it.

When you order you will be given a chance to buy PLEX at 50% off as well, so maybe PLEX is going away.

I have both so it doesn't matter to me except I had hoped to see some kind of update to PLEX and a add-on sample set presorted.

What a drag. I wonder what else we'll see going away in the late winter...

hmmm.. how long before we see 'abandonware' audio app sites? very strange to discontinue a product entirely, at least they could just sell it electronically!

And attack - such a good synth. It deserved 2.0 version.

I got that email too but the page has been down all night. I already own Attack, it's excellent so I am surprised they are discontinuing it (if this is the case) Shocked

Not that surprising if you think about it.Waldorf's the actual maker of the plug, and they're owned by Terratec now.Steinberg's VSL-2020's a direct competitor to the Terratec cards...

But why is that good reason is discontinue Attack? Maybe Steinberg just lost the rights (their times up) and Attack will be made available through Waldorf/Terratec??

I probably should have stated it better...yes,Steinberg probably lost the rights. As for Terratec releasing it-probably with a DSP card if they ever do.That's the way it looks like the Terradorf(or Waldotec-your choice Wink )product line is going.
There's been a bunch of meaningless speculation about this on the Waldorf forum lately.

OK, so we know why Attack is going away, and 79 euros is not all that cheap considering I purchased mine new when it first came out for $99. It is to bad we never saw an Attack 2. With a couple enhancements that could have been one of the only synths necessary for a track. As it was, the thing has outrageous sounds.

For me PLEX is the disappointing thing. It's running a bit cheaper than the other similarly priced plugins but it's hard to imagine it did that poorly.

I know a lot of people hated PLEX but it has so much potential. A new sound set, or add-on, would bring complete new audiences. It's a good synth that seems to appeal to people like me and I guess I'm in the minority about things 'cause I thought PLEX sounded better than the sound set that came with it.

i kinda think don't mess with something so good. the latest version is ultra stable, denormal free, and sounds as wicked as ever. fuck a version 2, i'm just glad they got it right before killing it off Smile

I'm not much into 4/4 beats or techno that features it but I was listening to a bunch of tracks I did in Orion over the last 2 years and the tracks with Attack (a sound so good they had to make it a rack Razz ) had a huge bottom end that was really tight - that reads like a joke but seriously, the synth is huge.

I do hope there's a 2.0 version. We'll still have 1.x of Attack and if Waldorf were to tweak it a bit more, go for the synth basses and leads as I said earlier, few other synths would provide such a all inclusive sound.

If you put a bit of work into it you can even get some acceptable pads. The other thing that especially endeared me to Attack and the PPG Wave 2.v were the incredibly low use of CPU. On either synth I can run all eight channels and still not reach the CPU use of most modern plugins.

if someone had asked me to name the best drumsynths, attack would still be up there with the best imo. What a weird marketing decision.

mojogigolo,

it is a weird decision, but there's hope assuming Waldorf get their stuff together. I was told the XTk is no longer made, nor the micrQ. Don't know if it's a fact but it sounds like Waldorf are in trouble and that would be sad because Waldorf are one of the great names in synthesis as far as I'm concerned.

ttoz, I have some stuff saved with Orion songs but it's fairly easy to get a good idea. If you have a nice effect like AngelinaFX, one that completely colors the sound with it's granular formant style you'll hear thin pads, the only kind I ever got from Attack, spring to life. You can try it on some of the leads and out of range basses and get some interesting sounds, that or perhaps a pitch shifter, doubler and some delay with chorus. Attack's sound engine was never that far from being a full fledge synth.

Well, I'm glad I picked one up before the sold them all. Hopefully Waldorf will do something with the Attack. Mabey a whole new product based on the attacks engine. The Attack and the PPG Wave are two of my favorite synths and I'd love to see more from them.
