A preview of M42 VSTi

Just uploaded a sample file called M42_Totem2

http://www.artsong.org/cnf/Warehouse/2164216_m42_totem2.mp3

about 1 meg

============================
Preview of M42. VSTi from AlgoMusic
This track was done completly live. No overdubs.
EnergyXT was used as host and recorded directly to EnergyXT's audio capture.
Only EQ was added in Sound Forge.
Performance by Tim Conrardy
=================================

This is basically a preview of a VSTi that Dr Ambient and I are working on that also has algorithmic elements. Right now it is in Alpha stage, but as you can hear from this short MP3, it sounds very promising and right up my alley! This was all done live ( as it says above) so it's a pretty full sound. The sound is my attempt at recreating Klaus Shultz's Totem piece. The actual original piece used an ARP odysee. I was able to figure out the patch and somewhat recreate it here..at least the feel.

The actual VSTi will feature two voices with LFO, 2 Envelopes, a Pulsar ( which creates the algorithmic elements) and a complex modulation matrix for each voice. All of this going into a chorus and stereo synced delays and auto pan. One Osc uses regular VA waveforms ( saw, square, triangle, 2 kinds of pulse) while the second uses a special SoundFont set of pad sounds such as Vocals, bell-strings, cosmic , space organ, and a full sawtooth sound.Lots of stereo imaging on this synth as well. There is also a split keyboard function which allow you to have different sounds on each side of the keyboard. You can for example, have a pulsating beat on the lower end, and a good lead sound on the higher end. Lots of possiblities here!

More is planned for this VSTi including more algorithmics, and perhaps a ring modulator in a joystick for some real time warp. 8O ( within the M42 nebula screen shot)The sound can be described as a "space synth" which goes well with my reputation as a "Space Pad " sound designer. Laughing Thus the name : M42 which is my fav nebula in the constellation Orion in Orions "belt".

The GUI,( above screen shot) while somewhat large, offers a good work flow so everything is on one screen in front of you and not in pages. This was important in the design.

We would welcome comments on the sound of this VSTi as it is still in development.

Right now, AlgoMusic is here:
AlgoMusic: http://www.xs4all.nl/~viccal/index.html

You can download for free ARPY and PhadiZ synths right now. We are working on another domain as well.

Cool stuff Tim! Looks like a powerhous synth for sure! Very Happy And speaking of 'Orion' - is there any way to convert Relayers Arpy Presets all into a .FXB file?
Orion Platinum doesn't take to kindly to .FXP's
One at a time, and always over writing the first one. Sad

Keep up the great work Tim! Very Happy

Hi..thanks for the comments. The FXP files were actually mine! Relayer did his in FXB. I should have followed his example Smile

But I did it , so here ya go:

I am really looking forward to this synth. It's a great "space/pad/ambient/lead" synth, and I feel it will provide a different sound and fill in a need for this community.

Sounds and looks quite promising.... I only wished for a more readable screenshot... the letters are quite hard to make out. I checked the site too, but there was no mention of the M42 there.

It seems that the site is still in progress as some of the buttons are not working yet....

And that demo sounded pretty good!!!

Yup.... Whenever there are TC-Pads on a synth, you can be sure to travel into space Very Happy

I had picked up the Arpy before and worked on it on one occassion. Delicate tweaking, but a bit too limited for my taste... I shall try again, now there are two new banks there.. Smile

Picked up Phadiz now too and hope to get to that one soon (I have a huge map of 'still to try synths 'n FX'

well..I had to keep the image small. Once we get going on this, we will put an "official" screen shot and info on the site. This was just a preview. Also, the site is not finished and is still in progress. So hang on! We have been working more on this synth then the site Smile

I like to use Arpy with another layered synth or a good string VSTi for a full sound. Its a specialized synth, so it's not meant to be a "workhorse". It does what it does: its an Arpy Smile Shocked

I may do another demo of M42 with some Pads, as this thing excells at space pads as well ( tim-style Smile

Glad you liked the demo. I was surprised myself at what was coming out the speakers and just lucky I was capturing it in EnergyXT Shit! As some of the elements are algorithmic, you can come up with some surprises.

I am patient.... Embarassed

Thanks for the tip there Tim, gonna try the arpy out again today Smile

And can I use this space to thank you for the many great sounds you have created over time... Great admiration for you from this end.

I just did some sound design for Ugo's latest too Very Happy

WOW!! Surprised That looks great Tim!! Very Happy ThanXX for
Arpy,(and the new bank!). I've been having a blast
with it....as you say, it rocks layered with
other synths(and drum machines...he..he.. Smile).
It's right at home in Bidule.

Cheers.....CL Embarassed

Excellent Tim! Thank you so much! Very Happy So I must also get Relayers patches as well then. I always thought there was just one bank for Arpy. Embarassed

But thanks for the quick fix, and you make M42 sound really exciting too. Can't wait! Very Happy

Could be because of bandwidth. We are getting a new domain, so that should clear up. Wait a bit and try again. When KvR starts downloading...IT DOWNLOADS! Shocked

RE: Relayers patches. I was real surprised when Relayer made patches for ARPY, as it just came out. His patches really make good use of the synced delays. He even made some cool effect patches.

ARPY is rather decietfully simple looking, but theres a lot of parameters to tweak. Its a bit different then using knobs and sliders and keeps everything rather compact. A lot of stuff in that little box!

For M42 however, we wanted slider and knobs and a space type of look...and Spacy it is!

You can say that again.... Had it on today again.... And now I understand the power of this one.....

M42...I can't bloody believe that's SE! Shit!

It sounds VERY nice! Very Happy

Somehow smoother and more detailed than other SE stuff, (although I like SE for being a bit dirty)

OK!! Looks like we finally got a new domain. All the info is there on M42 including good clear screen shots.

AlgoMusic is now at: http://www.algomusic.nl

Everyone should have no problems downloading ARPY or PhadiZ. ( freeware section)

More news as time develops. According to the Dr, we might have a demo within a month or so. So hang on!

Probably the price of a good haircut Shit!

We are taking on the ol' Atari philosophy:
"Power without the price " Smile

Once things get in shape, we will announce a price.
Should be very affordable.
