AuthorTopic: A really good midi keyboard Anyone?

Whats the best midi keyboard out there?

I use a Roland A-37 (76 keys), and while aftertouch is pretty good, it lacks in "on the fly" tweakable knobs and sliders.

What are you using that has all the bells and whistles? Also, and new controllers out there with poly aftertouch capibilitys???

I use a new Alesis QS7 ($500). It has 76-keys (I presume you want a 76-key board), channel aftertouch, 4 assignable sliders, jacks for 2 assignable MIDI pedals, sustain pedal, pitch and mod wheels, and a nice action, plus it's not too bad a ROMpler, given its vintage.

If # of keys is not important, there are other great options like the Novation remote, etc. The reason I use the Alesis is that the keybed is important to me, and most controllers with oodles of knobs and sliders just don't have a decent action (and I need the 76-keys).

If you like the A-37 you could get yourself a knob box.

I've got a Roland A-31, and I've yet to find a keyboard inarguably better at a reasonable price.

A second keyboard might be worth considering...

Hey spikey. I'm not a keyboard player as such, but i recently got an Evolution MK-449C. its got 49 keys, 8 rotary controllers, and 9 sliders. its probably not the best keyboard ever, but its got a lot of controllers and came in at a very reasonable £122 including delivery here in the UK.

I got it from a site www.jigsaw24.com, I think they do international delivery.

Hope this helps

OT -

I share a birthday with Jack Klugman (TVs "Quincy").

Jack and I share with Ace Frehley (no jokes, please), Kate Pierson of the B-52s, and Kasey Kasem.

Kate, Kasey and Acey share with Corretta Scott King, U.S. Grant, Samuel Morse (inventor of Morse Code), Walter Lantz (creator of Woody Woodpecker), and actress Judy Carne.

FYI, I didn't consult the web for this info. They print it in my local paper. I memorized the list over a period of years...

Korg Z1......not only do you get the Oasys engine to play with but you have several assignable knobs and an x/y touch pad (precursor to the kaoss)-- fun to tweak cutoff with, yep....Yeah, it's only 5 octaves, but what the hell? Good aftertouch, too.

Best is subjective. You didn't really mention what you were using the board for, that might help too. I checked out the Radium and though it's cheap, it plays cheap. otoh, it is a nice controller for what it is.

For $400 there's still a bunch of E-MU Proteus PK-6 and Mo'Phatt MK-6 synths around. The extra cost isn't that much, the keys have a nice feel although they are a bit on the thin side.

It has a lot of midi capable buttons and several knobs. It's only 61 keys though. There's also room for 3 more 32 mb ROMS including the Orbit modules, the Extreme Lead ROM, etc. They're going for about 130 including shipping...

Thanks for that link- the M audio 88 key midi controller looks good, and I had not seen that yet. But I think I'll stick with my A37 and a knob box for now...
