AuthorTopic: All these ImpOscar threads have got me second-guessing...

I have a Bday coming up where I was planning on treating myself to a new synth. I got the demos for Tera 2 and Imposcar - I LOVED both. I had made up my mind that it was going to be Tera 2 however. Now I'm starting to second guess - does anyone have both of these beauties and have an opinion on which they like better and use more?
Here are what my pros and cons are for each right now:
Tera:
Pro - Versatility (analog, FM, Additive, etc)
1400+ Presets!!!!
Amazing sound

Cons - Looks very complex (steep learn curve)
Rough on the old CPU
Little bit higher priced

Imposcar:
Pro - Fat sounding and does great bassline stuff
Relatively simple
Great presets package as well
Lower priced
Easier on CPU

Cons - Not AS MUCH versatility
Already have a few VA synths
Wasn't as impressed by the range of sounds it is capable of (judging solely from demo presets)

I'm interested in some opinions comparing/contrasting the two. I know that it ultimately comes down to me and the demos, but I like to hear others' points of view as well. Bear in mind that I also own DeltaIII and Rhino, and I would lean towards electronic music (breaks, prog, etc)...
Thanks!!!

Authenticity/Quality always wins out over CPU Freindliness and versatility IMO.

Im kinda in the same boat...

The Angel....
I "want" Imposcar and Tera-2, but dont think I really "need" them since I own z3ta+ and Rhino...
I would think between these two that I can produce just about any sound I would ever need...

The Devil....
What a stupid paradox the good side has... Of course, you want all of them, so damn my thinking on being so logical on this.. You only live once my friend...
GRAB IT NOW!!!!

Other than talking to myself, see my problem too? Help Wink

I would perhaps put Tera2 in with those two (and that's why I haven't bought Tera2 yet myself), but ImpOscar gets my attention because I don't have a lot of really vintage-y synths. I would buy ImpOscar first for that reason - and I plan to buy ImpOscar even though I have both Rhino and z3ta+ (and the Dash bundle* and 4 ConcreteFX synths and the Linplug bundle and ...)

* and it's fair to say that if I hadn't just bought the Dash bundle, I would have bought ImpOscar already.

i'm sure many would disagree, but i'm not happy with my dash synths. i don't know... i don't really like dahornet, combosister or dalfa2k. is there something wrong with me? am i alone on this? same with cronox2, and alpha (not the free one). i like most of the others i have purchased, but these, hmmm. i just don't enjoy them as i should. Shocked i must be going crazy. i do like the image line synths though, especially dx-10, and simsynth vsti. i seem to have the highest amount of faith in refx stuff though (beast, and slayer), they're just more 'different'. is imposcar just another va, or would someone like me, who loves screamy leads, weird pads, and full lush analog sounds love imposcar? hmm... decisions decisions... i wouldn't mind trying tau pro either... i ask too many things. sorry.

Those are my two favorite Image Line synths (and actually the only ones I've purchased - well, Fruity SF player, but that's been replaced by sfz+).

Simsynth was exciting enough for me to choose it over Oddity. Wierd, huh? But I still want ImpOscar.

As far as not being wild about some of the Dash and Linplug synths, I guess it's a "taste" thing. Do you prefer IL Wasp to DaHornet? Any particular reason why?

FWIW, I bought the Dash package mostly because of EMM and Eve, as I already had DaAlfa2K. Wasp and Combo Sister were secondary benefits.

nope, you are not alone. im not a huge fan of those three either. i bought the bundle primarialy for eve, emm, and abstract...and im very happy i did...they are excellent synths. so to me, the others are just icing on the cake.

but back to the imposcar/tera topic...in particular the question of imposcar's versatility.

dont forget about imposcar's basic, but very useful, additive synthesis section. tweaking that will let you get a far greater range of sounds out of the synth.

of course the tone any waveform you create with the additive section will still be warmed and beefed up as it passes through imposcars killer filters...but i see that as a good thing. Wink

I just spent a while with the demo. Really, really nice. Like ugo mentions, the little additive/waveshaping feature really gives this thing amazing scope. It's really easy to twist sounds. I can't wait to start using this for real. I have a feelling we're going to be hearing this in a lot of productions.
