I wondered if there is a vsti that was capable of doing this - is it any good as a synthesis method, or is it a waste of time now we have the FM7 with its extra waveforms, filters etc ?

All of Bones' KILLER synths use PD oscillators.

The new Digital from ConcreteFX does too.

Thanks, everyone - but which one should I go for - i've tried the demo of PlastiCZ and its really bloody good and looks easy as pie to program - the Digital got a rough interface but has more in it - I'll try the demo -- are there any Reaktor Ensembles ?( to ew Very Happy Exclamation )

The original Phase Distortion VSTi (and original SynthEdit VSTi)

PD-303

http://www.synthedit.com/pd303.htm

It's actualy a cross between a 303 bassline and a Casio CZ-101, but it's free and made by the guy behind SynthEdit, so no excuses not to get it.

Take a look at
ConcreteFX Digital.

Jon's stuff is great, as is his support.

I think the Artphase is phase distortion.

OK, all of these metioned are using PD. But is there any real Casio CZ clone? I would like a virtual CZ-xxxx which could load all the old Casio presets. Even if many of them sound a bit cheezy there are some unique sounds that can be found nowhere else.

Just for the heck of it add some resonant filters also.

There isn't any 'clone' per se, though plasticz is supposed to be very close in architecture.

I read on the refx forum that plasticz is supposed to get an upgrade sometime soon. I'd wait for that - probably will add some more depth to plasticz (though its simplicity is very nice, a few more features wouldnt hurt)

PlastiCZ! is great and has some excellent presets. It also has the best on-board FX I've found. And, whoever said it's cheap, it's the most expensive synth I've bought but it was worth it.

Only 3 little killerz use the PD Osc:
EGOkILLER
iDkILLER
MINDkILLER

Artphase uses a PD osc and has a filter.

If you're really after original CZ sounds just use samples. I'm sure some loser somewhere has a CD of CZ samples for sale.

Phadiz is the way to go. using this vsti i have managed to faithfully copy my CZ1000 patches.
