OK, so I finally finished a run of nights, eagerly download from the ReFX link for Vanguard LITE expecting a night of sonic frivolity and general mucking about with my new toy. Hmmmmmm........
D/l'ed, unzipped, installed apparently OK - but open up Cubase (5.1) and it tells me Vanguard has crashed while trying to open. To cut along harrowing disappointment short, I redownloaded a few times, re-installed several times and get the same message each time. It installs the .dll (ver 1.0) and the manual + presets into the right plugin folder but same problem. I wondered if it's just that I can't d/l an uncorrupted version for some reason - The install doesn't ask me for the passkey (which I thought it would) - does your Vanguard ask you for your passkey at install or on first use of the plugin? I'm on Cubase 5.1, Athlon 1.1 with 512 MB RAM, Win98SE. It's a pretty stable system usually. Surely it's not that you have to delete the old version of JunoX2 before you install is it? I'm suspecting the d/l is corrupt, but I would assume it's the same link that other JunoX2 users were given? (And yes, before you ask, I did d/l the PC version Bah! Now I'm really f***ed off. I've e-mailed ReFX, hopefully they'll have an idea, but I just wanted to know if anyone else had similar problems? Or is it just me and my f***ing spiteful computer.

I assume, that Michael has tested merely on Cubase SX / Nuendo.
Maybe the problem is the old "Cubase registration bug". I can remember, that some plugins in the past caused the Cubase 3.6 to 5.1 to crash on first loading. Sometimes it is not possible to initialize or "register" a plugin successfully with this host... The only advice, I can give You is to use an other host. For instance the free VSTHost. It also supports ASIO drivers now. I tested Vanguard with success on it.

Oh god, I hope that's not the case. I'm certainly not going to change my host just for one VSTi One of these days I'll upgrade to Cubase SX, but not yet - it doesn't have enough of the old features reintroduced yet to warrant me getting SX and consequently WinXP. I don't need WinXP and I don't want to go through all the shit that it involves upgrading my OS. And I'm not going to spend another 15 years learning a brand new host I'll pin my hopes on it being a duff download (ever hopeful, I know

The installer should ask for the passkey when installing the Vanguard. Btw. Works fine in my CubaseVST 5.1 under Win98.

Thanks nBeat So I reckon it was just a dud d/l then. If ReFX can send me another link to a different one, hopefully I'll be sorted. I'll just have to make do for the moment, and go and play with my MS20.....sigh Ah well - life could be worse I suppose.

Installed Vanguard Full last night on my P3 800e system running Win2K and Cubase VST 5.1r1 with no problems. Using ASUS CUBX motherboard here (really ancient I know but will be upgrading to a P4 system later this year).

Thanks for the link - I missed that one, I'll go have a look - so it's probably the mix of AMD + Win98 then? Damn.....I might have to seriously consider getting WinXP. I knew I'd have to eventually, but hopefully not so soon. As an aside - Mike from ReFX got back to me pretty quickly (he might come up with a fix hopefully?). A big thumbs up for their support and quick replies....some companies you don't even get a reply from |
