i bough NI battery but i can't really use it.
it works ok but sometimes some samples don't play for a few seconds. sometimes it's even silence for about one second, or only one sample is playing. it's really annoying for drums ... it happens when i create fast rythm parts. i tried all the other samples (demos) and it worked fine ! is it only me or battery has a huge problem ? btw i have a P4 2.6C ghz, 512 ram, 120 gb SATA, i875p chipset PC, running with cubase SX1 thanks if you can help !

ok, i know what is the problem now ! it has something to do with the HDD access. i tried a version of kompakt from NI, and it played the same way when DFD (streaming) was on ! and when i turned it off it played fine ...
i don't have much memory (512 mb) so direct streaming would be great for me and my drum sounds uses 300 mb ... it doesn't leave much space for other vsti s... so, basicly the reason is the streaming. any idea how to fix this ? btw i got a SATA hdd if that matters. i hope you can help

here are two mp3 clips:
without DFD streaming (it sounds ok) http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Members/000124099_000015975.mp3 with DFD streaming (some samples sound weird or don't play) http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/Members/000124099_000015976.mp3

Yes but Battery dont do diskstreaming!
Or is it Kompakt that have influence on Battery, are you playing them at the same time? OLE
| stengah | Posted: 16th March 2004 09:31 | |
i don't play them at the same time at all .. but what is strange is that when streaming is enabled in kontakt, it then has the same problem battery has with my pc.
i really though battery did the diskstreaming as kontakt got the same problem when streaming is on. i really want to use battery .. i paid for it ! i have a bit of free cash left so as kontakt seems great i could buy it but i need to use this streaming or else i won't be able to use my other vsti.

Simplest thing to do is stick more memory in.

so which button did you press to enable diskstreaming in Battery???? mully
| Horse | Posted: 16th March 2004 10:25 | |
Hey Mul!
Mmm - remember Battery, eh! I think NI have given up on it now. H
| stengah | Posted: 16th March 2004 13:47 | |
.... ???? i always though that disk streaming used less ram ... if no than what's the use of this damn thing ? -------- multree, i did this with kontakt, not battery. with battery it would sound like the second one.

Battery doesn't disk stream,so that's not it.It could be the way that using SATA accesses the drive, but I'm not sure about that.
You never said anything about your soundcard-have you tried increasing your buffer size? Also, you haven't said in Battery's case if this happens when you're trying to record the fast drums,or trying to play them back. Will it play back the MIDI track OK? ew

ok let me awnser you :
first, i though it was the disk stream, because it does the same problem with kontakt but only when disk stream is activated. but as you said, battery doesn't stream, so it can't be streaming but a hdd problem. i use an audiophile 2496 audio card. i've tried using very high buffer size but it was the same problem. it usually happens when there are a lot of fast drums, but sometimes it can happen in slow parts too. the problem occurs during playback AND when i try to save the file.

Edit | ||
| stengah | Posted: 16th March 2004 15:30 | |
in fact it works perfectly if i disable the streaming in kontakt, but cubases will use 327 mb out of my 512 mb of ram and it doesn't leave much space for other vst instruments.
i'd like to use battery because i bought it but i think there will be no way i'll be able to make it work, it seems it's my hdd or something like that. however, as i said i could buy kontakt because i like it a lot from what i have tested, but i really need this streaming from hdd. or else ill have a mix with drums only ... while playing with the settings of the hdd streaming i found some that were a bit better (one lost sample every few seconds or so) and that confirms it's a hdd problem or something like this. but ... i had to max all the buffer sizes and as a result is used even more ram than not using hdd streaming ... i think you now understand why i'm desperate ...

Sorry - completely lost.
You say that everything plays back OK without using disk streaming, which is fine because you know that Battery doesn't use it. But if it did, it would NOT play back correctly but at least it means you could use it because you don't have enough memory to load a 300mb drum kit with 512mb ram. H

kontakt with streaming won't work
battery (no streaming) won't work kontakt no streaming WORKS

Well, I don't know if this is it BUT if you're running win.XP make sure you don't have "run in windows '95 compatability" mode activated.
This may be a long shot but for some reason a while back I had somehow done this w/ Acid Pro 4- and it would play one-shot samples(ram access) but would not play hard disk files at All.

... running cubase SX in win 98 compability mode ?
my project are quite ressource intensive , so if i must run cubase in emulated OS mode ... wow it's going to blow !
| stengah | Posted: 16th March 2004 17:04 | |
i've tried running the kontakt.exe in compability mode and it was the same thing. i don't know though if it's the same as the .dll in the vsti plugins folder. (i don't think so)

well I know that Battery doesn't Diskstream..... my question was rethorical..... I just wanted to know which button you pressed to get the different results
| CaptainMark | Posted: 16th March 2004 18:09 | |
Disk streaming uses quite a lot of RAM as a buffer. There may also be issues with slow HD's.
For such a large kit in Battery, I would also recommend more RAM.
| Trojan Badger | Posted: 16th March 2004 19:40 | |
There's no substitute for more RAM. But I had this problem. Mine was a polyphony problem. If I had a piece with lots of ride cymbals I would get notes not playing etc etc. What you have to do is take something like that which is playing and put it in a mute group (as you would for a hi-hat) so that when it is hit, other examples of that sample stop playing. |
