Ok I realise this is my second post for something pretty unheard of....
But it relates to trying to use Brainspawns forte again. As there is no sequencer or audio file player in the software, i'm hoping to find a VSTi that can play audio files from CD. I can't run both Forte and WMP so hoping to find some way to play a CD track and transcibe it with the voices i have made. I know that it wont play immediately (like a sampler would) but it would be very useful. I managed to find http://www.irdbisa.com/gunshopsoft/xtal/ that will play MP3 files which is useful, so at the moment i'm converting CD tracks to MP3 which is obviously time consuming. Fingers crossed!![/url]

Look around here for the MDA line of plug in effects. They just came out with a CD Player VSTi that looks pretty good for your needs! Here you go http://www.mda-vst.com/ look in 'Utilities', and scroll to the bottom of the page.

Where do yo see that it is a VSTI?

There is definetly a mda VSTi CD player, and it is a very good one indeed...
But I'm afraid that the address above points to another (much older), standalone unit. I remember having downloaded the VSTi not long ago and the url wasn't in the web page. Perhaps Paul Kellet will be reading this thread and can lead you to it. By the way if he happens to be reading it: THANKS!, THANKS, AND MORE THANKS! for this little gadget...it is extremely useful! Anyone remembers the right url?

Thanks Rere, my BAD! I was getting it straight from Pauls posts here awhile back, and just 'assumed' that was the same thing I pointed too. I'm just going to walk into this now...

Cheers for hunting down the link. I've tried it and it works fine in Cubase, but strangely won't open in Forte. It does mention int he readme that it doesn't work with some hosts - maybe thats one of them! S*$T

Try it wrapped inside EnergyXT or Chainer inside Forte ? Doug

Cheers but i dont own Energy XT or Chainer so i cant really try that. Thanks for the hint though. Would exactly would they do?

Well, as they're hosts in their own right, as well as VSTI's, then they can "sit between" Forte and the CD player. You can test it with the demo versions, to see if that solves the problem... and it's also more info if you decide to contact Brainspawn about it. Other idea is to go to Brainspawn's support forum and ask about this app, they are pretty good about wanting everything to work. Doug

Hi,
I'm the developer of forte. I'll download this player and see why it won't open. However, on a broader topic...how would you imagine using a CD player or wave player in a non-sequencing performance environment? I would have guessed that you would want to load the sound sample into a VSTi sampler and trigger it with MIDI input. I'll be paying attention to where this goes. Thanks, Mike http://www.brainspawn.com

As an alternative, why not give Xtal a try?
It's an MP3 VSTi that works very like a DJ setup with faders, speed control & much much more.

Hi Guys
As for WHY i need it - its just as a quick utility to work out songs that i need to learn - whilst programming the relevant sounds in Forte, it will never be used to play sounds live. As for why not use Xtal - I do and its feckin useful, but would mean converting all CD files to MP3 first - just hoping to find a swifter solution. Cheers for more help, PS i agree with the comment abou the Forte guys - total commitment Cheers

Just realised that when i said the CD player won't open in Forte, it is present under the effects section.
The MDA player is 2 dlls one is the effect version and the other is instrument, not sure why one works but not the other? Ideas on a postcard? |

Thanks Rere, my BAD!
