Welcome at KvR Keule!

For realistic stuff there are 2 options I can think of :

- A rompler (Sampletank, Hypersonic,..) : Not too expensive and easy to use, but you'll have to check first to see if they provide all the instruments you want to use.

- A sampler + sample CD's (Halion, Kontakt,..) : A bit more expensive and a bit more daunting to learn at first (but very rewarding in the long run). Positive thing is that you can buy only the sounds that are of interest to you.

There's a third option actualy : A resynthesizer (Cameleon,..) : Not an exact emulation but a very interesting sound and lots of fun!

Peter.

You can also get a free sound font player like the sfz from rgc:Audio who has a forum here. Then do a search on this forum for topics about soundfonts. Those topics will lead you to places that you can download free soundfonts to use within sfz. Also, consider upgrading to sfz+ which cost a little bit of money but is very nice.

IMHO Sampletank is the best allarounder. Easy with good sounds except for the saxophone which absolutely stinks:) But... Go for Tubilesax in addition to ST if you need a good sax synth and youre pretty much covered for it all.

Bonjour Keule! Very Happy I myself am pretty happy with Ethnosphere. It's a 'rompler' of world instruments - for better or for worse. Wink But it does have a great selection of flutes, asian orchestras, guitars, and much more! www.soundburst.com

It's REALLY straight foward, pick a sound and play it pretty well. Responds to Pitch Bend and Volume and Tune - but no myriad of knobs and 'snapshots' and all that. And most of the sounds are pretty darn good! Wink

Welcome! Smile

Picking a sampler isn't a bad idea, what host do you use? Cubase SX? FL?

For the koto, you might want to check out NuSofting's HarpTime to see if that works for you. It's one beautiful-sounding VSTi.

Sonic foundry came out with a ACID loops cd called 'Opium' a while back. It's fantastic!!! Very Happy
It dosn't have a koto but it does have: Dizu, Erhu, Guchin, Pipa, Yangchin, and some percussion.

If you want a Koto i recomend a cheap eighties yamaha or casio keyboard. Laughing Laughing just kidding.

Keule,
What is your host? What program are you going to use to play the vsti?

BTW, I think sampletank would be the easiest.

So, I use Cubase SX 2. So please, i don't wanna buy Sampletank or such, i would be very pleased if the synths could work with cubase, too, and not only with sampletank. if its only works with project 5, fine, io have it too, so: Please only plug ins who work with cubase sx 2 and project 5! and excuse my bad english i'm only a 15 years old boy from germany (the hitler-region, and remember: hitler was from AUSTRIA, not from german Laughing !, yes you thougt it: a noooooooooooooo~b.

Sampletank IS a synth, or rather, a sample player. It's a VSTi, so it works in Cubase. It contains lotsa samples in a proprietary format: this means you can use those samples only in Sampletank, not in e.g. Halion, and you can't import the samples manually to Cubase either. (Of course, you can play Sampletank and record that in Cubase)

Cubase plays VSTis. Sampletank is a VSTi.
