AuthorTopic: Carbon - anyone knows how to run this as a vsti?

Hi all,

I recently got NI's Carbon synth from the Keys magazine, but not any instructions - I didn't find the magazine, just the software. Anyone knows if this one runs inside a host as a vsti? I only managed to operate it standalone and can't find a .dll file anywhere. I checked NI's site and didn't find anything ..

It sounds like the same synth I got on the cover of a different magazine in the past. The synth I have is definitely a VSTi. The DLL file for mine is named "ReaktorSessionOne.dll" Perhaps you were expecting "carbon.dll" instead?

You might want to do a search of your hard drive and look for the ReaktorSessionOne DLL file. If you have it, make sure a copy of it is in the folder where you keep all your VSTi synths.

good luck,
McLilith

I already did this. The search results in one file only, the .exe one ..
Maybe I got something which is not the original. Maybe the Keys version is different, I guess you got yours from the FM magazine ..
I just don't know where to find this one, I have been searching for two months now everywhere I could think of - I think it's a great instrument but I can't afford the Reaktor price ..
Maybe you - or anyone reading this - can publish it somewhere? It's free isn't it? Rolling Eyes

Thanx anyway Smile

Yeah, I got my version from FM magazine. There could easily be some differences between the two, but I just don't know.

As for publishing my copy, I couldn't really do that. True, it was "sort of free" (I had to buy a magazine to get it), but I doubt that I have permission to re-distribute it. If nothing else, maybe you can find the appropriate back issue of FM magazine?

The only way I could install it was by letting the installer search for plugin folders, then I selected the appropriate folder, and I checked "add to subfolder" wich you can find on the same window I believe.

The truth is I searched for back issues. From the FM magazine they told me that this issue was off. If only I had started buying FM before 09/03 .. Sad

The NI Carbon synth was released on two issues of the KEYS magazine:
- the first one had only the standalone Carbon
- the second one (one month later) also included a VSTi version

i originally installed Carbon from the FM cover disk, but at some point I got fed up with all the quirks and reinstalled it from the KEYS magazine coverdisc.

i think it's a slightly newer version and some of the glitches cleared up (or maybe just a reinstall did it). FM continues every month to include reader submitted patches. At first I didn't think too much of them, but since my early impression I've ended up using some in projects. I esp. like the NC (Neil Clarke ?) presets.
