AuthorTopic: Cantor - better than Vocaloid?

Like who the hell would know just from an announcement, but personally, this interests me a hell of a lot more than Vocaloid did.

Sounds like its much more 'generic' as well in that it doesnt need different versions for male and female (and alien) vocals.

Maybe it wont be as realistic, who knows, but funnily enough it sounds more interesting, maybe a bit more open-ended...

By the way, someone shoudl tell Ben that the news page link to virsyn is wrong. It shouldnt be wirsyn

I'm confused, by Cantor and Kantos. This clearly confuses me because I am a dumb consumber.

I must say, I found the CM (or was it FM?) vocaloid review to be rather amusing. Glad I didn't just buy it out of curiousity.

I think it's a lot more interesting in concept and VirSyn have a great track record. I'm surprised and yet it seems logical given the technology areas they've headed.

I'm very encouraged about the announcement.

Sounds amazing - love the name too. Another vocal synth - last year was the year of the additive - is this year the year vocal synthesis finally comes of age? Again, it might not be totally convincing but again I don't really care that much - the main thing is it's another addition to our musical palettes - and maybe as it isn't sample based it can offer more - talking gongs!

Who wants "real" singers anyway?

That's sooooo 1930's.

Realistic or not, sounds like a lot of fun! Smile

The logical answer to the subject line has to be: "Could it really be any worse?" Laughing

It will be exciting to see one of the best small software firms take on an accomplished hardware manufacturer... I've started making computer music with Yammy stuff and really loved it for its power-for-the-buck, but now my sympathy goes to Virsyn.

I'm *MUCH* more favorable to realtime and sounds like ass than wait 10 minutes for the damn vocal clip to render and STILL sound like ass any day! Wink But then again, we havne't heard yet, so we'll wait. As long as they don't ahve some oddball copy protection like Vocaloid, that'll be several plusses in its favor too. What does Virsyn do for CP anyway?

Simple serial number. And you need to be registered to get the updates which then need the original install disk to work, it seems... Fairly benign.

Yea Virsyn rules my freakin' world man. I'm so hopped up for Cantor right now. Given I was also hopping excited for Vocaloid only to be disappointed later on (I still have hopes for later adopters of the technology however). At the very least I hope cantor does a good job of upping the ante made by speak & spells of late by giving us producers a quirky little plug for making fun vocal lines for tracks. Doesn't even need to be that good at signing, just has to sound good and natural enough for simple vocal phrases, AND have the underlining synthesis programmable (a major problem I have with other vocal synthesis programs).

I'm really keen to get a go on this. I'm so pleased that there isn't some convoluted CP to worry about. This is influencing my decision to buy products lately.
