AuthorTopic: A request to software Devs and hardware manufacturers...

Right...THIS IS WHAT I WANT!!!

I want ALL of the hardware manufacturers to take ALL of their products and develop VSTis of them (ir: Roland, Korg, Yamaha etc). Where there are classic synths that are no longer made or even the companies are no longer around, then it is time for some of the software "big guns" to take charge (step up Ohmforce, Arturia, G-media etc.). However, to take this a step further, I want them all, along with the software devs, to agree to a basic VSTi "shell" into which you can load their plugs. Not only that but they also have to incorporate the facility to take certain components from each of their synths and include them as "modules" in a Reaktor/Synth Edit kinda way...MS-20 Filter, Oscillator, LFO etc...maybe the companies could even sell specific units for a reduced price...so £100 for a whole Memorymoog, £15 each for the filter, oscillator etc...just a thought... Smile

So you could, for example, pair up a JP-8000 Super Saw Oscillator with an SH-09 Sub Osc, pass the pair of them through parallel Minimoog and Oberheim Xpander filters, mix with a D-50 oscillator before using as an operator in a DX7/FM7 patch, finally, outputting the whole lot through an OSCar filter and processing with Wavestation FX. Sure, this baby would EAT CPU!!!!! But my point is that this is something that you COULD do in "the real world" (you remember...that scary place!!! Shit! ) if you had the time, money and knowledge to do so by butchering a few classic bits of hardware and doing a bit of DIY. But the VSTi route has so much going for it. I am sure that we all suffer from "gear lust" on here but there have been many times that I have felt that something is lacking in my sonic arsenal...and having the facilities to do what I have described above would also give us ALL the chance to formulate more unique and individual synths and sounds.

I guess that the icing on the cake would really be the ability to save the whole lot as a "custom" VSTi but I guess that would cause licensing problems so as long as the whole patch/setup could be saved as one "patch" then there wouldn't be too much of a problem...

Anyone else think that this would be a good idea??? Any suggestions on "hybrid" synths that you would build??? Wink

Once again, if anyone HAS done a thread on this before then please accept my apologies! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this one...

PS: Does anyone know if any of the MAJOR companies have ever actually responded to any ideas put forward on here??? If this one happens then I want my commission...or at least a freebie!!! Wink
