I have just discovered the delights or arpeggiators by playing with D'cota and am having great fun running it through my Kaoss 2.
Can anyone tell me if there are any VSTs that are simply a MIDI arpeggiator? I.e. that they're not locked into a synth but simply output the arpeggiated sequence for feeding to another module. Does such a thing exsist or is there a technical reason for them only residing within a synth? Cheers.

IIRC, most computer based sequencers(from Cubase to Sonar, this also includes buzz..) offer a midi plugin which will arpeggiate the incoming midi note data.
Look into your reference manual. If you want something more powerful, have a look at Energy Xt which offers an extremely versatile Arpeggiator.

of course there are Tobybears' Arpimedes and Falkelab's
Arparatus and Xoxos did one as well (can't remember the name right now though, but I'm sure he will pop in and enlighten us)

hi, we have created a vsti-step-sequencer, which can work as an arpeggiator. holger

Wow, that must be the ultimate step-sequencer you've created there. I've just started exploring the demo, but it looks like you've packed a lot of power into it. And I appreciate the thought you put into controlling it--the interface seems very elegant. I'm looking forward to spending more time with it. [But if the original poster was looking for a "true" arpeggiator (one that takes an input CHORD and spreads out the components), of the ones mentioned here I think only xoxos's arp2midi does that.]

Also EnergyXT does this using the chord component. nF

I know it's confusing, you may be thinking EnergyXT has that "Arp component"(which is actually more of a step sequencer), but why the hell would I use the "Chords component" to do an arpeggiator. Well I made a tutorial to help explain how it works. You can check it out HERE if you care. Choose the "Chord component" link in the tutorials menu on the left. nF

Nicfit, the link is down. Can anyone explain to me how to use Energyxt as a normal arp? ie. holding chords arpeggiates through the holded notes. Thanks.

The site moved... you can find the chord tutorial HERE now. nF

Thanks Nicfit. I understand now... mostly But am I right in that its not possible to set gate time for the arp, or do fast 32nd or 64th notes?

Topaz Chordworx Free can be used as an arp as well as a chords tool. A very nice alternative to EnergyXT chords component, esp. for those who don't have EXT.
An even better solution for people that don't own EnergyXT: buy it!

Do any of these actaully work well cause the arp in Cubase sx is fucking pants.
| NicFit | Posted: 15th June 2004 18:08 | |||||
Definately checkout Chordworx!!!...and if you need to trigger chords faster than the 16th notes the chords component offers then you can use the Arp component. To simulate a gate you can put an Arp component after the chords component with one 'root' note entered...put it in "1shot" mode and now you can change the note length to 32nds or 64ths.
But gate feature on the arp in Chordworx is much more flexible nF

XOXOS ARP2midi demo does not work in Cubase SX2.2
I have followed the instructions to the letter with assigning the channels and your .dll don't work. It also causes the driven VSTi's to stop working. The driven channel shows midi activity but i am sorry you still have problems with your VST. |
