AuthorTopic: 6 String or Masterverb Pro?

I've just registered at Creamware and they say I can choose a plugin half price. I can't decide between the Masterverb Pro or Six String.

I really like physical modelling instruments and especially string sounds, and Six String looks fantastic on paper but how accurate is it? - is it worth having for example if you already have Reaktor which has a number of string models in the library - or is it a whole order of magnitude better as it's modelled in DSP? I already have the Modular 3 and Flexor as well so maybe I could find a modular ensemble that does the same?

Same goes for the Masterverb Pro. The standard Scope 4 already includes Masterverb so how different is it from that? And again, I have Ambience, Reaktor 6 Rev, Spacemaster etc - do I need another reverb and is it worth paying the extra for? Also does anyone know if it imports standard IR impulses? - specifically the Spectral relativity pack - that might clinch my decision if it does. It looks to me like it might physically model spaces in realtime - that would be cool too but I'd also like to use sampled spaces to create more weird effects.

To be honest my first choice would be Solaris but they say it's not included in the offer - boo.

If I remember correctly 6 String is not part of the 50% offer.

i think zdar is right - Six String and Pro One (now proTone) contain 3rd party elements so do not strictly come under the offer (purely CWA devices only). So that narrows your choices to MasterVerb Pro. Do you have stuff like MiniMax and Vinco already cos they'd be my first options.

i actually just got Vectron, MasterVerb Pro and Vocodizer for about £165 - what a steal. You get a -50% plug-in per board that you own (excluding SRBs).
i already have the 'biggies' like MiniMax, B-2003, Vinco, Optimaster etc.

Can't tell you much about MasterVerb Pro as i don't have a DAW at the mo - just wanted to get my 50% off while i could. i don't think it's quite as fancy as you'd like - you can check the features in the pdf manual which i think comes in the SCOPE package anyway, i doubt there's any importing of anything, but for around £67 it's a steal and i think it'll be better than the standard MasterVerb and better than a lot of native reverbs too (though not necessarily the ones you mentioned).

Yes I have Minimax already as I got the synths/samplers pack thrown in too. I didn't realise the 6 String would not be included either, I assumed it was one of their own, not 3rd party. I guess that makes it a no brainer then Smile

(unless I go for another synth like the Prodyssey or that nice looking B3 clone - I will checkout the Masterverb manual as suggested Wink)

i can highly recommend B-2003. Even if you don't always use the organ you can use it as a Leslie effect or just to grunge things up (i use it on M-Tron all the time). i already have GMedia's Oddity so getting Prodyssey is a bit of a waste for me (plus i like Oddity's Duo Mode too much).

As to the Six String, when you are in the '50% Off' mode in the shop double check to see if it's available - you never know. i think it contains licensed modelling algorhythms, which is why it isn't a 'pure' CWA device. i am a guitarist and also dabble with bass guitar so Six String for me would be a bit of a waste, although i hear it does sounds beyond the norm in terms of strings (i assume it's more plucked stuff than slow attack strings).

Happy choosing,
Mr A.

I have the EVB3 which imho is way better than the B4 and I love the feel and sound of the Hammond so if it's that authentic I might be tempted - looks very good - even simulated crosstalk (like the EVB3). I need to replace my Logic instruments eventually if and when I jump hosts so it would be worthwile. I decided long ago the B4 wasn't up to the job.

I think the Masterverb sounds better than most NAtive effects. Why not try the hour demo of both to see if you like either? I've never been interested in MAsterverb Pro owning my Eventide, but now I like Dreamverb on the UAD-1 better. So smooth and natural sounding. Check it out. I think I'd probably get Masterverb Pro instead though.

Well after much deliberation I bought the B-2003 today. I had to download it twice though as I couldn't believe the size of the download the first time - 443KB. I can't install it till I get the new workstation but it seems incredibly small for a whole synth of this quality. All I can say is it must have some really efficient code modelling the B3 if this isn't some download error.

CW device downloads are small, even MiniMax wasn't huge. Don't forget it's an oxe file so i assume they are compressed files in some way. If you have the money you can still get 50% off MasterVerb Pro too. Would be interesting if you could do a comparison to EVB3 - i love B-2003. Don't forget to get my presets for it here.

How come - I thought I was only entitled to 50% off one plugin?

Thanks for the presets.

Can you post sound examples, comparisons perhaps?

Sure - when I have it all up and running.

However in my experience part of the pleasure of playing an great organ emulation is the feel of it as you play it - maybe it's just me but I get a lovely warm buzzy feeling in my belly, it's a real pleasure to play something like Logic's EVB3 though funnily enough I never got the same vibe when trying out the NIB4. Of course I'm hoping the Scope version will be even better. I'm not sure any of that will come across in a few demo sounds though.

What I really like is those lovely floaty organ sounds Pink Floyd used in their early stuff - was that a Hammond?
