Hello...I know this goes against everything this forum and website stand for, but I need to know. Is there any software that will create a song on it's own? Say if a style is entered or some other parameters are entered it will create a musical output? I am transferring some home movies to DVD and would like to put a musical track on it that will not infringe on anyones copyright. Alternatively...Is there anyone here who creates music, that would fit into a home movie track that would sell their compositions?? Any web sites with examples?? Thanks so much!

Let me ask you, why don´t you make your own music...no copyright probs there.
Or, get Band-in-a-box | ||

Thanks for replying. I don't have the imagination required to write a song. I am not that talented. With BIAB, wouldn't I have to enter chords and such??

Pirkle Music Composition Studio makes music according to classical rules. Often it's too predictable, but sometimes its output is really interesting. It has an autogenerate mode, so you can just listen as you work, then save what you like.(My "Butterfly Walk" at www.ultradia.org was composed from a PMCS-generated piece; I pulled it into Harmony Assistant and edited a much longer, more repetitive piece.) That site is http://www.pirkle-websites.com/composer/
If you want something more strange, Paul Whalley's Poodles and Flan (which is free) is at http://www.poodlesandflan.com/. A generator that falls in the middle is Whalley's earlier program, Tangent. Tangent's been around a long time and was never updated past 1.0. It has a lot of fans, and I use it a lot of generate ideas. Its elevator mode will generate piece after piece after piece; when you hear something you like, save it. You wind up with a midi file that you can do whatever you want to with. It's at http://poodlesandflan.com/randomtunes/ There are also many fractal generators out there that will generate music for you. One I use a lot, but more for retunings than generation, is Fractal Tune Smithy: http://tunesmithy.co.uk/ Of course, the quality you get is going to depend on your soundcard, your system setup, the instruments you use, and your skill. You could record What You Hear directly from one of these programs, but it's not likely to be too professional-sounding. But if your project doesn't require that level of music, you might be happy with what you get with no hands-on.

another suggestion are construction kits that slowly build the song for you, you just decided which pieced you want where. try some acid libraries. also, the new uberschall plugins spring to mind, they have hundreds of precomposed melodies

why not ask amateurs for tracks? the only 100% automatic track maker i've seen only did trance and had ~1/2 dozen variations, coded as a joke i'd say. i'll have one out someday, but i doubt it will produce anything commercial friendly.

Hi,
Have been in the same boat - transferred all analogue holiday videos to DVD over last 12 months and as I have had such great help from K-V-R, managed to created 'suitable' soundscapes. Videos were of France and US - can let you have examples but bear in mind these were 'written' specifically for the scenes. Mark

1. download ORION-Demo from
http://www.synapse-audio.com/ 2. start the randomize-button 3. make corrections in EDIT 4. export the midi-file 5. import into sequencer for more have fun

I'm not sure but last I heard there were already quite a few existing songs. Have you checked any of them to see if they are what you are looking for?

You could try the Very Structured Music Maker (VSMM) in KeyKit (google knows where it's at). It creates four-part harmonies to your specifications.

But these are home movies.These are family movies, right? Or what kind of movies are they? Do you plan on releasing them? Don't get me wrong, big props to you for wanting to pay someone to do a custom track. Actually, I am not trying to discourage you from doing that, on the contrary, but I am wondering why you are concerned with copywrites if it is a home movie...
