I'm doing some arranging for Brass Band (in the British tradition), and I want to be able to play those as I'm working on them in as close as possible to actual instrument sounds. That's no big deal when it comes to trombones, tubas, and percussion... but it's an entirely different challenge when it comes to Euphoniums, Baritone horns, Tenor horns and Cornets (NOT Trumpets!!) Rock/funk brass and orchestral French horns can't even come close.

Has anyone here come across a good VSTi or Soundfont that might fit this need? Any suggestions?

The only thing I've found that claims to be even close is Edirol's HQ-Orchestral VSTi. I haven't been able to evaluate this, since this is the one Edirol soft synth that doesn't have a demo available. Anyone able to comment on this as an option?

Thanks.

I'd offer up samples of my tenor horn and cornet (and frumpet and trombone, should they strike your fancy), but I have limited range (and dodgy tuning) that wouldn't be heard with a better player, and have a less than optimal recording situation... Rolling Eyes

Demos:

Mobo Nuevo
Sloppy Tsunami
Horn Requiem

Don't know if you'd find oddly miked horns any more useful than existing SoundFonts with trumpets and french horns! Razz But if you're desperate, drop me a line.

I've actually made a deal with Gary Garritan that I'd donate my tenor/mellophone samples to his Personal Orchestra product if I make it to Seattle soon. Very Happy

Dan Dean Solo Brass has some of what you're after. Not cheap, but damn tasty good.

I've looked at the Dan Dean solo brass, and it's basically the same old collection -- trumpet, trombone, french horn, tuba. No cornet, no tenor or baritone, no euphonium, no flugel. What's there is good, but it's not what I need. Same old story.

Look again. There is a cimbasso and a euphonium, you can buy them individually if you want. I think you've been looking at the lite collection, which is missing those instruments.
