does anyone here know any softsynths that compare to the virus in terms of industrial music?

Uh-oh... Scared

Welcome to KvR, deathblow.

As a newcomer you’re forgiven but we tend to stay away from the ”V” word nowadays. If you do a forum search for, e.g., ”Virus” and ”Vanguard” you’ll understand why. Threads about the Virus tend to get a bit...er...infected. Confused

Anyhoo, the topic is up there so put your best asbestos suit on and enjoy the flaming. HiHi

ok. my bad Smile

bad choice of words. what i meant was more like; is there any kind of softsynts that can produce "virus-like" sounds... (like the the pro-53 or minimoog v do to their originals)

but i guess im walking into a minefield here so...

theres no native vsti that sounds like a virus. But if you want a virus vsti, you can get yourself a tc powercore dsp card, and buy the indigo powercore, which is basically the virus B, as vsti, which requires the powecore dsp card to work, other than that its a vsti it sounds the same as it's outboard pendant does.

I'm in the process of selling all my hardware (amongst them was the Virus B).

I still feel uncomfortable with the idea that it's gone (I might get the Powercore Virus, because I still have lots of sounds for it), but I made 2 remixes now, one with some Z3ta+ sounds, the other with some Albino2 sounds, and I must honestly say that I didn't miss my Virus B (yet Wink )!

but here i see people have been fair to notice your a new comer and maybe do not know the unwritten rules(well theyre unwritten so why would you?)so as seems appropriate most have welcomed you in the trues spirit of kvr, which i must commend you fellows on,as i know the word virus normally fills you all with fire and brimstone Very Happy

I think z3ta+ and Vanguard can produce similar sounds to a Virus. I have them all and they do compare on some presets. The Virus sounds great and has some wicked presets but then so do a lot of synths. If you want a Virus then buy a Virus - if you want some great sounds for dance or electronic music then there are loads of synths that cover this area.

I imagine that if you asked for a synth that sounded like z3ta+ then people would tell you to buy z3ta+ as it's unique in it's own way. The same goes for the Virus, SuperNova, G2 etc. etc.

/goes on for another ten paragraphs/

So there you have...Very Happy

Hello deathblow,

welcome to KVR. Smile

Access themselves have made a VSTi version of their hardware virus for the TC PowerCore board.

I didn't check it myself (not knowing the hardware synth anyway), however, people said the emulation of the hardware synth is 100% accurate.

If anyone should know better, please correct me. Wink

I've tried the demo and compared it to my Virus Rack XL and it sounds as good. But it's a Virus B rather than C so it doesn't have all the functionality. It sounds excellent IMO. You also get all the Poco effects which are very good, especially the reverbs. I think there's an offer still available at the moment - if you buy a Poco you get the Virus included. Cool Although I doubt you'd be asking this question if you could afford to buy the Poco so this may not help and a Virus Rack XL costs about the same anyway. Usually people ask about substitutes to avoid the expense of the Virus.

Pfft, Eric just showed us a thread on another board 'claiming' the powercore version doesn't sound EXACTLY like a Virus. Rolling Eyes Just more people trying to 'justify' their expensive purchases.

(not directed at you Stefan Wink ) I guess it really matters where your 'who cares' threshold lies. Wink Last time I checked, I could still write a tune that sounds great with z3ta+ or Vanguard, and they all can make sounds that are very very similar to each other. Maybe something to do that they're all substractive synthesis? Naw, couldn't be that...

Hi There

I own a supernova 2, and I recently invested in z3ta.

I really think that it is important to emphasise that each instrument really does have it's own character-

I sincerely believe that we are at the stage now where vst synths and hardware are comparable in sound quality. This does not eman all soft synths sound fanastic, nor does it mean the same about hardware. Rather we have the quality in both areas

Now it is time to explore and really appreciate these sounds and instruments, and explore them with fresh ears.

I read recently that the new Virus filter is based on the classic Moog filter. So does that mean a Virus sounds more like a MiniMoog than any other plugin? Laughing

Just want to make sure people are clear on this..

The offer is if you buy the *original* PowerCore at full price (i.e. $999) and not the Powercore Element at $499. Some people are thinking if the buy the Element right now they are getting the Virus for free. This is absolutely not the case. This is so that dealers with remaining Powercore PCI stock which they paid for at much higher prices before the Element came out have an opportunity to clear out their inventory.

Laughing Wonderful! Brilliant! I love it! His name is Deathblow and he starts posting at KvR with a Virus thread! Genius!

Welcome to KvR, Deathblow. There are a few VSTis that can come debatably close to Virus sounds. The unfortunate thing is the debate gets rather stupidly heated. It's almost like a religious war, except nobody has died for their cause yet.

Oh, and I don't know much about because I'm a guitar player. Embarassed But I just love to read the Virus threads!
