Hi all

My mother-in-law ( who was more like MOM to me) passed away yesterday at the age of 72. It was cancer. It has been a gruelling 2 months on a roller coaster, but she is at peace now. Why post this here?

Because I feel she was responsible for a lot of things I did. To tell a story:

A while back, Dr Ambient and I were going over what name we should call our company we wanted to form. Dr Ambiant and I go way back with the Atari-MIDI list. He created a unique program called AEX which I helped beta test and made suggestions.( http://tamw.atari-users.net/aex.htm )

We wanted it to have something to do with algorithmic music, as that was what we were into. Our first idea was to create loops made with soundfonts from algorithmically created material from programs such as Tunesmith, Ludwig, Music Mouse, ect. We actually worked for several months on this, and turned out some good SF2's ( which we might make available)

So the names we came up with were: Algorithmic Research, Algotunes, and some other ones. My Mother-in-law was visiting and told I her about our delema. She suggested "AlgoMusic". That seemed like a simple name that represented what we wanted in a company. I told the DR, and he liked the name so much that he created the web site and started to put the Logo on our beta's we were working on. The name stuck.

Then the M42 Nebula was about to be released and I was working on the manual. Since my Mother-in-law used to be a technical writing editor , she offered her services for grammer and correct english. She helped shape the manual into a much better form ( even though she did not understand all the terms)For that I am eternally greatful.

She also re-sparked my interest in Astronomy by getting me a small refractor for a christmas present. While not the greatest scope, it inspired me to get an even better scope, and I still treasure the smaller one.

She also always belived in me, and wanted me to succeed in whatever I did. I hope everyone here has someone that does that!

Also: due to my vertigo condition, she always drove me around to all my DR appointments. We always had lunch together afterwards at a one dollar item place. I got to know her better as a result as well. More treasured times.

So...her tribute is in our company "AlgoMusic" ( http://www.algomusic.nl ) which she helped to name, in which I am forever grateful.

KvR; where else can one share these deepest of emotions.

Thank you for sharing this Tim; I am sorry to hear though she has passed, but I can hear that the good memories will live on inside of you.

I can quite relate as my girl is in these gruelling months and somehow this will only add more glare to the only just ordered M42. It will be an instrument treated with only more respect Very Happy

Sorry to hear the news mate,

I don't have anyone who wants me to succeed... i just get called a geek but my dad and brother and told to stop spending all your money on damn music equipment and contribute to the household. i laugh at them, I'm gonna juice a free place to say till I'm kicked out by then I hope be a professional musician and producer and I'm nearly there even though the learning never stops.

I guess what I'm tryna say is you were lucky having someone who wanted you to do well.

Sorry for the loss, I wont say you'll see her up in heaven because I'm non-religious. But whenever i think of the unanswerable questions, I just wonder where the universe ends and what space is....I guess you can wonder that too when you look at the nightsky with your telescope.

Sorry again for the loss, hopefully you will be able to channel your pain into some music for a few good tribute tracks.

Later

Sad news, Tim. I wish you well. My father died of liver cancer at the age of 47. Though it was back in '91 I can still see him smile after telling a horrible pun or beating my brother or I at scrabble, backgammon, chess ( or any other game under the sun). Your mom will live on in your heart till you meet her again. Take care of yourself and your family.

Hey...thanks for all the support here guys...who says KvR is not human ( well...on more thought....I think some of us are not Smile Shit! Shocked Surprised Very Happy Smile

It's nice to know however that I am not alone and that people here share the same type of experiences. This is what makes us a sort of extended family I guess.

I do tend to express my emotion thru music, so I will be making a tribute track soon. Probably with M42 Nebula( and yes...Mystahr..it does have more respect) and a good piano sound (from my EMU MP7)

I also go out star gazing almost everynight. It helps relax me and to know we are not alone in this big universe. A comforting feeling.

Thanks all for the great support...it has really touched me. Crying or Very sad

I wont go all condolency on you, but I will say that I'm glad you had someone to influence you in the ways she did; I am jealous - My influence (dad) died at the age of 15, but he is the reason my whole music fascination began.

Hi All

I have composed a piece in Tribute to her. It's here:

http://tamw.atari-users.net/NewBeginnings.mp3

About 2 MB's

All softsynths rendered in Tracktion

MPiano ( the free one: nice piano sound with some EQ and reverb)

3 Instances of M42 Nebula: The RYM patch starts it off. Strings ( PAD Universe) and Bass follow.

Drum loops from CM magizine.

Sort of a jumpy-happy and somewhat emotional peice. The Piano is the lead voice, which is what I wanted. She really liked Piano music. My style tends to be very floaty however.

anyway: this is my Musical Tribute to her. We also put my tribute on the Algomusic site : http://www.algomusic.nl ( go to Home and scroll to the bottom and look for "memoriam")

I guess it's time to cut for a while the mother-in-law jokes. For once there's one that was a human being, for a change. In that way you're luckier than I was Confused

My full sympathy, and lucky you had her
