AuthorTopic: Anyone using Plasticz?

It's good looking (well, at least it's colorful), doesn't sound too bad (not the worst at least), and it's idiot proof (even I can program it!). Any more reasons to buy it? Does anybody use it?

I like it's sound and it is easy to work with. You can do a lot with it and it is good at it's price point in terms of value.

Keep working with it a bit, you will discover it can be more complex than you may suspect. Read the manual, it will help.

In the end it is all about if you like the sound. reFX were one of the first to do a phase distortion synth and imo they did a great job of taking a somewhat difficult style of synthesis, or at least nowhere as recognisable as subtractive (most synths available) or FM (like DX-7 and it's more advanced siblings FM-7, Rhino and Sytrus, with the latter two being multiple synthesis systems rather than a modernized DX-7 clone.)

what is up with all these 'are you using' threads for reFX products? do they have you up to some kind of weird marketing work? Razz

Why? Nothing major, just curious.

Got it, use it. On my top 10 instruments list. I hate to admit it, but in addition to the way it sounds, I also like the way it looks. Visuals are very important for me!

-Don't use it personnally for my own compositions (much more found of rom-players modules) but with many electro-like music styles i made in collaboration with someone else this synth has his contribution ( very interesting trancegate effect, among other goodies !!!)

I have it, I use it, I like it. It's not a must-have synth but it's got character.

Yeah...EXACTLY !!

Why should it matter if anyone else uses it? If you like it isn't that all that counts?

Unique sound, beautiful GUI, ample features, fair price, great support... what more do you want?

i wish i was using it. i have had the demo on my HD since it came out. there has always just been something that i have wanted more; its certainly on the list but i think that im going to get PSP Nitro first.

I'm not so sure about ample features. When I said it's idiot proof it was mainly because I feel it has only basic features; wouldn't it be nice to use several effects together, with a mix...?. On the other hand I can always use VST effects. It's the first synth I'm able to program it after a week (a couple of hours, in fact). And it's good news and bad news... maybe Confused

But the reason why I started this thread was because (no, not a ReFX marketing campaign Wink ) I had never seen anything written about it. And it's always nice to know that we are about to buy something with a broad base of users.

I use more than any other commercial synth, apart from JX Synth. It's a piece of piss to use, it has a very fat bottom end and a big overall sound.

ample
SYLLABICATION: am·ple
ADJECTIVE: Inflected forms: am·pler, am·plest
1. Of large or great size, amount, extent, or capacity: an ample living room. See synonyms at spacious.
2a. Large in degree, kind, or quantity: an ample reward. b. More than enough: ample evidence.
3. Fully sufficient to meet a need or purpose: had ample food for the party. See synonyms at plentiful.

When I said "ample", I was thinking along the lines of definition 3. Wink

Damn! I just got Adder, Digital, Unison and Micron for $70USD. If I had read this thread earlier I could have gotten the PlasticZ for ten dollars less.

Disclaimer: I am not a ConcreteFX lackey and I love PlasticZ. Just some deals are way better than others.

Hey, does anybody here use Anamark?

The assumption that 3 synths for the price of one is necessariy a better deal is fundamentally flawed. I've looked at several ConcreteFX synths and not been tempted to spend more than 5 minutes with any of them. The UI's are harsh [I'm being nice here] and the presets did nothing for me. OTOH, PlastiCZ! has some great presets that drew me in straight off.

i love concreteFX's GUIs and although i like plasticz!, i have to admit i find its GUI quite unappealing (if fairly original).

That's pretty interesting !

Just to add that the similar frensh word of same root : "ample" is commonly used in frensh language without this strong intellectual connotations...amazing !!!

All the reFX synths sound very harsh and 'digital' to me, in fact they all sound very similar. A few of the presets grabbed me, but in general they dont fit in my trax. Dont like the onboard FX at all.

Tregetour:

I have Anamark, and I think it is very cool. It took me some time to get my brain around programming it, but I think it has a great deal of character and is capable of a wide variety of sounds. I like the unique modulation options, especially the combiners. I don't know why it does not seem to be more popular. I would be courious to see if it is going to get any further development from Mark Henning, the developer.

Strong intellectual connotations? Just clarifying my original post, seems it was misunderstood. I'll try and dumb it down for you though. Smile

Hi Mark - glad to hear you're still working on AnaMark. I have been thinking about buying this one - it's really nice! Do you plan on raising the price with the next update or anytime soon?

Regards

About the price, I cannot say yes or no. I simply don't know. In any case, the update will be free for already registered users.
