AuthorTopic: A big huge reaktor thread (in the making)

So, like a billion other people here, I'm feeling much more komplete at the moment (and like everyone else here, my wallet isn't - but that's ok).

Reaktor wasn't the main reason I shelled out, but it was certainly an affordable way to get my mitts on it. I've only been playing with it for 2 days, and I can see a strong relationship brewing (luckily, I'm not married - but I've already pissed off my girlfriend HiHi).

Without meaning to start a "my modular environment is phatter/warmer/modularer than yours" argument, I ask the questions:

a) Have you fired up reaktor since shelling out for Komplete?
b) Why the hell not?
c) Ok, so what have you built (or are you building) then?

I was surprised to see that out of the komplete manual, the reaktor section was (possibly) the smallest. While I know this is going to take time no matter what, and that I should probably just learn from pulling things apart like everyone else has, I had trouble finding the elusive "this is what everything is, and this is what it does" document. Have I missed something?

So far I've joined the Reaktor-list yahoo group, and of course am keeping an eye on the NI forums, but are there any other resources I'm missing out on?

I've set myself a project. After firing up all the "packaged" synths (and "wow"ing alot), I figured I needed something to get my teeth stuck into this new toy... and so I looked around and saw my Sherman Filterbank flashing innocently at me. Obviously I'm not going to make an exact replica, but I think it's a great basis for an "inspired by" project (and gives me the opportunity to make it run stereo end to end, and I can throw in a delay line or two). I couldn't find anything on the NI user library.... so I've begun (and have surprised myself after only 1 night's development).

So - to the established Reaktorians: what are YOU doing with Reaktor? Any guru's want to pipe up with any magic tips or links? Where's the NI forum on KVR??? (just kidding HiHi)

I can tell you that if you re-create a Sherman you'll have alotta new friends Very Happy

I'm not aware of more resources than the NI forum/user library & the Yahoogroup. Reaktor doesn't get the attention here it deserves beyond a few absract posts.

I myself am not a builder, aside from stitching together corpses of other ppl's work. I have too much fun farting around with other ppl's stuff & pretending to be a musician to actually manufacture anything useful.

ew, don't start on me, at least I'm being honest!!

One resource that gets mentioned alot is the Wizoo Reaktor 3 book, which I have, & yeah, it's well written & descriptive in details. No, I don't see it being updated, but it's still a great place to get yourself familiar with modules & etc. Check it out.

I would really like to see more Reaktor discussion here, but that may be like re-inventing the wheel. The NI foum & Yahoo group have it down pretty cold.

One more place to visit is the new reaktions.com site, which is a spawning ground for music created mostly within Reaktor by very well respected Reaktor developer Rick Scott (a.k.a. rachMiel).

Maybe I'm missing something, but when I installed my Komplete, a huge Reaktor manual (492 pages) and a 4.1 manual addendum were installed as well (PDF files) with a detailed explanation of what everything is and what it does.

Whoa... definitely missed that one. I like to dive in the deep end, but Reaktor seems like it could go down a leeeeetle bit deeper than your average modular splash pool... Wink

that link seesm to concentrate the most information on one page

what i'm doing with reaktor is fooling most
a) the effects -- so a filter bank is alwayts welcome. ifigure I have plenty of sound generators and since Reaktor tends to be a bit heavy on the cpu side, I'm using cpu slim sound generators and trying out Reakto fx

b) with those rhythmic self-generating, self-starting sequencers. I just love these things any and all I can get my hands on. The friendliest ones seem to be the ones that come with the package vierring and wave???. Friendly becomes an issue with some of these because they tend to start up and go by themselves or be limited to possible cc control of a volume or run switch. It'd be very much cooler if these things could be triggered in a host by midi notes (ala drum or other samplers)

so I've been fooling with making wav files of the output of these and then bringing that wav into Intakt.
But taking that one step further and at that point where one thing leads to another ---
I got a gift certificate the other day at work for 5 years of service (which isn't all that easy in the world of software development) and applied that to amazon.com and picked up Screenblaster (acid Lite) Now rarely have I read such scathing, disappointed reviews of a product on Amazon (they hate the limited cheesy wavs supplied), but I think this will do what I want
so here's the proposed sequence

-- set up a Reaktor sequencer to my liking
-- record it by inserting in otherwise empty project and setting appropriate loop size
-- importing that wav into Screenblaster and rendering it as an acidized wav
-- importing that into Intakt for mangling. beatslicing, time stretching, etc.

any problems with that?

Why don't you just use this & keep it in Reaktor?
