Im not sure if its appropriate to ask this of the community but Im having trouble finding Steinbergs VB1 Virtual Bass Synth.....
Everytime I go to the FTP downloads section at their site I cant get thru. If anyone would care to send me the .dll I would be very thankful. Im just getting back into this music creation aspect and so Im not sure if Steinberg has discontinued giving that bass synth away for free or what the problem is but if someone would be so kind as to send it to me I would be thankful. Again,if this is wrong of me to ask then I hope the MODs will understand my noobiness.....lol...but I remember that plugin from way back and I want to check it out. Thanks to everyone. they re-did thier site not long ago I think, so I don't know if it's still there or not. I just got it again a few weeks ago, & I posted a link here. Do a forum search for VB-1

I don't think this is the way this site works... On the other hand, I have VB-1 and, believe me, there are better options as a bass synth, even as freeware, like http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/1094.html http://fr.audiofanzine.com/produits/index,idproduit,38071.html http://www.kvr-vst.com/get/627.html Enjoy, and forget about VB-1

Like Jax said, there's way better options available.
Check out Polyiblit & grab the preset collection at www.patcharena.com Also, try triangle II EVM has a decent bass synth that's a freebie as well. There's WAAAYY too many to list, but damn near every one will give you better output than VB-1.

If you're wanting something that sounds more like a real bass than a synth bass you should grab a copy of sfz and then check out some of the tons of bass soundfonts available.

I'm probably just being sentimental, and no doubt in a minority of one, but I honestly quite like VB1 It's just so easy to use - you pick which bass guitar you want and off you go - don't need to twiddle parameters usually or anything else. I admit I often either a) end up using another synth once I've finished off the midi side of a track, or b) use a whole heap of FX plugins to get VB1 to sound a little more realistic if I'm going to record it............... But it's still useful - sounds enough like a bass guitar straight out of the tin to be able to use when you just can't be arsed with all that patching of complicated synths. Although Sfz is definitely a good idea.......in fact I was at a musical standstill yesterday, so I went surfing - I hadn't realised Sfz was at version 1.9! I was still on version 1 - it does a whole heap more since initial release, eh?

I use VB-1 occasionally too. It's not great, it's not awful. It's... okay. Just another of the jillion and one instruments in my virtual junkhe- uh, that is, my instrument storage room. Yes, that's what I meant to say.
One way to improve an El Cheapo bass is to run it through elogoxa Baxxpander, a free VST of which I'm rather fond. Behold the power of CHEESE! ^_^ |
