Hey, folks --
I've been trying to access the bitheadz website for more than a week now and it seems to be gone. Anybody know anything? Terry

Yep, 'tis true apparently, they are out of business. No wonder with the way they handled things. (the support was a JOKE). I have had many problems with unity and rarely got my emails answered, what makes this worse is that the copy protection was C/R and format based, i.e., formatting my hd killed my auth and the same response doesn't work. don't you just love it? so, even with the stability problems, unity had some nice sounds, it seems i just lost thousands of sounds, have no way to authorize my software and am deeply out of pocket. ( i only bought this november last year). This is a very serious issue, as it is the first "major" player (bitheadz have been around forver) in the plugin world who use C/R who have gone under. i sincerely hope this is not an example of what happens for example if NI or IK (god forbid) were to fold. Now I understand why people are so cautious about C/R. Bitheadz just dissapeared with not even a goodbye or a download version of the product that didn't need authorization. thanks, cunts. i am very upset to say the least.

Shit - That really sucks TTOZ.
I hope NI don't go under - I use Absynth almost as much as I use my spine!

Well, you can hope that some other developer picks up the remains and buys the code of Bitheadz hands. Then maybe that company can offer you a new license (an upgrade cost is to be expected though) Doesn´t sound to impossible imo

I don't think NI will go under, it was just an example. They have made an official statement that they would provide downloads that didn't use C/R in the unlikely event of them folding. Bitheadz have simply showed us what a company can do if they really don't give a shit. maybe they are not legally obligated, i honestly have no idea, I need to look into it, but wouldn't they WANT to do the right thing by their customers?

NI do mention in their CP FAQ that they will release serial number versions of their plugins should they go under.

TTOZ, I wouldn't condone it in other circumstances but you should just look for a crack or keygen if they just left you high and dry.[/quote]

what a sad state.
surely Bitheadz must release s/N to there user base. they cant just vanish, there must be some law about that ?

TTOZ,
I would never, under normal circumpstances, promote the use of warez, but if you bought this program in November and can't get it to work because of a reg code issue, and the company went under, and you can't get a reg code.... use a cracked copy. You shouldn't feel bad about using one, as you paid for the software and you can't get the code to make it work... anyway, my 2 cents.. -edit- Oups.. I didn't notice that fxe suggested the same thing... well, I'll just second what he said then..

whats even more interesting is places like audiomidi and musiciansfriend still have the entire bitheadz product lineup for sale.. I posted them an email and immediately got a returntosender message stating
| ||

by using the wayback machine.. i got this info about registering..
I posted a message to that email addy and didnt get a return-to-sender message (yet)

i don't feel it's immorla in this case either, the problem is I don't WANT to install wares on my machine of any kind just in case they fuck something up.

Also the very act of using warez is illegal, under any circumstances. Not to mention that the very act of downloading and using said warez condones the crackers efforts.
These arent nessecarily my view points but just another angle. KVR and the majority of its members are against warez and it seems a few of the brothers are allowing the true nature of warez to become distorted to justify its use. Amen

If I shell out a couple hundered dollars from a company that doesn't even have the responsobility to release a serialized version of hardware specific registration, I'm gonna use a friggin crack, I don't care WHO it pisses off..
Once a company violates the user agreement & leaves it's user base to rot, anything goes AFAIC. Fortunately, I have not had to resort to that. But who knows..who saw Bitheadz taking a plunge? It's not like they didn' see it coming, they could have warned someone. |
