I just downloaded the demo. It looks...wow. But I don't know where to start - anyone tried it? I'd love to see some example constructions. Amazing that its just over 600kb in size - genius coding.

Also try the toys - ripple and chaser - great fun.

I've been using ABox for severel years now- it is like a Hacker's Max/MSP!!! Surprised Cool

I primarily use it to experiemnt with the sonic possibilities of cybernetic/neural networks and complex/chaotic system dynamics- sort of the modern version of Bebe and Louis Barron's methods-

the main strength of the program is that EVERYTHING is written in assembler- so it's fast and tiny- you can run thousands of separate processes/oscillations/etc simultaneously! even FFT and complex mathematical functions can be done in huge numbers in realtime!

Is there a user libray anywhere or would it be possible to send me some working examples? (esp interested in neural net stuff) It looks amazing but daunting in equal measure. I'm so impressed its in assembler - that explains the lack of flab.

looks fascinating, I'll give it a go for sure (though probably in a very un-intellectual way... Smile)

looks limited though:

"Min Frequency 657µHz (25 minutes)"

but I wanted *real* low frequency oscillators...

Very Happy

The analog box site has a number of interesting examples, many with lots of notes provided to explain how it all works.

hey, i've just downloaded the demo too. i can't believe i've never heard of this!

i'm hooked already, tho it's really really complex. so far i've only gotten random sine wave blips coming out but it's real fun and i can imagine having a lot of fun with this over time....
wow! thanks for the heads up!

if i find any good techniques i'll let you know

Thanks - I've found the library now too (though I would still be greatly interested in any neural net stuff setAI - thanks). This is just amazing and so responsive. A must buy for the price ($66)

It looks complex but its simpler than MAX/MSP and a lot cheaper. What are the main differences - the FFT stuff interests me as even Reaktor can't do that.

Too bad the author decided not to pursue the possiblity of "compile to VST". It's a keen piece of software, but as it is I have to switch constantly among Orion, Audiomulch, and Acid to get anything done -- Analog Box just won't make my life any easier. Smile

Yeah but it can host VSTs Smile

Hopefully all this interest will encourage Andy to shift development priority as ABox has been pretty ignored by synth heads, until now, hurrah

How does this sound basically ?
I know that it possibly could do a lot of stuff, but it certainly has a basic characteristic.

Anyone ?

Also, some encouraging news that the possibility for an Abox VSTi is being looked into, just dont hold your breath Wink

Thanks to Andy the dev for being so communicative Very Happy

Hello,

Just tried demo and looked into FM synth tutorial. WOW Shocked - it's simple enough! Too bad it's not VSTi. BTW, can't find any example with LP filter.

peace,
o.
