HOLY COW!
The electric piano sim is the BOMB! Possibly even better than Lounge Lizard

Awsome... i really like your stuff. Organized Trio is my main organ sim.

hey ZioKiller,
"Mr. Ray" Can we assume that is a nod to "The Genius"? Brother Ray Charles? Too cool! Thanks so much - I love your stuff and use ot all the time!
| rcat | Posted: 1st July 2004 16:37 | |||||||
Been using O.T. for a while and really like it. Mr.Ray might just be the best electric piano sim out there. This is very impressive and very generous. Thank you so much!

For some strange reason I can't download either vsti no matter what download file format(zip or exe). I keep getting an error saying something is wrong with the source(?)of file contact administrator. Anybody else have issues? I had the same problem when I tried to download earlier versions Of Organized Trio.
| MickGael | Posted: 1st July 2004 16:45 | |||||||
Hey terryturtle,
Are you using Mozilla? If so, try IE...

Hi Zio! I must say I really enjoyed OrganizedTrio. It has a very nice and warm sound. Gonna have to checkout your epiano vsti as soon as I get home BMX
| Jbravo | Posted: 1st July 2004 20:06 | |||||||
MrRay epiano sounds fantastic! I'm amazed - and grateful that it's free...
just one thing though. In FLStudio the wah-wah doesn't seem to work - it just mutes the instrument
| Jbravo | Posted: 1st July 2004 20:07 | |||||||
that's weird - it wasn't working a second ago, but I reloaded the plugin and now it works - sorry for the false alarm!
| Sicklecell666 | Posted: 1st July 2004 20:52 | |||||||
Ziokiller, these are extremely nice. Thanks alot for sharing them with us, I love the new one.
But, unfortunately, I need to second the wah-effect mute bug. After re-loading, it worked fine. Also, I saved some patches & they will not load. Great instrument, & this has little impact on that at all, congrats.

I'm using the latest Netscape as my browser. The message I got when trying to download Mr. Ray says this:
Download Error(message box name) C:\WINDOWS\TEMP \k8z3I6Ic.zip could not be saved, because the source file could not be read. Try again later, or contact the server administrator. Anybody got a clue?
| morelia | Posted: 1st July 2004 22:19 | |||||||
Can somebody please tell where to download MrRay. I have searched the site and found download links for everything except MrRay.

Just below the picture of the GUI.
There are two different versions to chose from. Installer, and zip. On this page: http://www.soundfonts.it/vst/

Definitely another jewel in the Synthedit crown...

Daaaaaamnnnn! Great job!
Mr. Ray - Just wow. I was noodling around just playing a few keys to hear the first patch when I decided to "punch" a chord out. I about fell out of my chair. Beautiful bite. The Trio - More just wow. Gritty if you need it, sweet if you don't. Very full, realistic range of B3 goodness in here. Noticed a couple of things related to hosts: Neither works in energyXT, both do in MiniHost. Everything else I have works in both hosts fine. Not sure if it's an error on my part or what. I got the Trio to lock up in MiniHost but was able to break out of it.
| Nolwenn | Posted: 2nd July 2004 07:06 | |||||||
Organized & MrRay EP sound really good, thanks for the great work.
| maximilians1 | Posted: 2nd July 2004 07:11 | |||||||
I'm not sure the wah effect is working correctly in MrRay. When I turn it on it really crunches the sound and distorts it to an unusable level. I'm using minihost and vsthost. Other than that they sound great! Cheers
| mistertoast | Posted: 2nd July 2004 07:46 | |||||||
I had the same problem in Psycle, but using it through Chainer worked. It'd be nice to get that bug cleared up. Just about every other VSTi works in Psycle.

Another "THANK YOU!!!" for your efforts and your talent.. I own a legit copy of N.I B4 but I find myself more amd more often choosing to use your Trio... And your brand new Mr. Ray is really awesome, i already started to tweak it and got some beatiful patches. Again, thanks a lot! Arceo

Keep up the great work! BMX

Yeah, no doubt: Mr. Ray (and shouldn't that be "Brother Ray"?) is among the more amazing free VSTi I've ever seen.
| schelsullivan | Posted: 2nd July 2004 18:31 | |||||||
Very nice, Im diggin both vsti.
Raves and cudos aside for constructive critisism. Trio's tone, vibrato/chorus, key click, overdrive: all sound really really good. IMO though the leslie sim is a bit unrealistic. with Trio's leslie sim turn off and add B4fx and bam! sounds as good as anything out there. Keep in mind that leslie simulation is very difficult, many companies with lots of research and programing teams have done worse. Even the folks at hammond/korg/roland have had a hard time reproducing the leslie effect with a sim. Mr Ray is rich man! FAT and RICH! only one suggestion: more polyphony! Amazing work, both beat up on many expensive vsti.
| Shifrin | Posted: 2nd July 2004 18:33 | |||||||
I've had them both working fine in EnergyXT Standalone beta 23rd June (not tried the 3rd July yet d/ling now). By the way, Mr.Ray knocked my socks off - would have gotten Lounge Lizard if it weren't for the c/r copy protection - but now no need Shif.

hi,
i was trying to install MrRay´s VST Electric Piano with Logic Platinum 5.5. all i heard was a horrible loud sound. tryed to reinstall severel times, but nothing...same problem with "ORGANized trio". any advice for me? TIA
| bluedad | Posted: 3rd July 2004 03:26 | |||||||
very nice work
thank you | ||||||||
| Initializing Behaviours | Posted: 3rd July 2004 03:35 | |||||||
This is one of the best Rhodes-emulations and the best SynthEdit I've heard! The detail in Mr.Ray's sound is stunning, nice are the mallets and tine-controls! The distortion works nice for giving it extra crunch. There's one small problem with the Wah. When you activate it on patch 2 and higher, you will hear (almost) silence. One suggestion for a possible future release: A sustain(pedal) Thanks!
| Manc Chris | Posted: 3rd July 2004 04:14 | |||||||
Yes, Mr Ray, fantastic tone, lovely GUI, just one concern:- Why no velocity sensitivity?
| Scotty | Posted: 3rd July 2004 04:22 | |||||||
Great work.
A wish list, consider tempo synced delays with a sync to host or free option. Velocity sensitivity added and wah repairs. I know others may disagree but a nice VU meter a la Lounge Lizard would look cool. Maybe a switch to shut it off (turn of the light and needle) to save cpu. Really, very nice work. - Scott
| maximilians1 | Posted: 3rd July 2004 04:54 | |||||||
There is velocity sensitvity, with minihost and vsthost,what host are you using? Try it out with one of those.
| Manc Chris | Posted: 3rd July 2004 06:08 | |||||||
I am using CubaseVST. Vsthost??? What's that then?
| terryturtle | Posted: 3rd July 2004 06:26 | |||||||
I was finally(!) able two download Mr. Ray and Trio. I used the installer versions for the second time and apparently the new downloads attached to data from the previous attempts, because each download took only seconds.
Mr. Ray is excellent with its authentic sounds and various parameters. I'm hard pressed to consider buying something like Lounge Lizard when compared to Mr. Ray. It is clearly the best free epiano out there, because you have so many parameters to work with. I won't get rid of my mda ePiano though, in fact ePiano and Ray compliment each other. I compared them both and really enjoyed them both, though Ray has the upper hand with it's controls. The only problem I have is with the wah section which really needs an update, because it's useless in its current state of sounding like a broke down Morley wah/distortion wannabe. Trio is smokin'! I loved that sound when I first downloaded the original single manual Organized vsti. The ovedrive really makes Trio scream like overdriven Hammonds of yesteryear. As much as I love Trio I'm still gonna use my Rumpelrausch zr3 which was and still is one of the best free organ vstis around. And I must say BOTH ZR3 and Trio sound waaaayy better than LightBag! Now if only somebody would only create a nice emulation of a Vox or Farfisa I'd have all my organs covered. With both Trio and ZR3 I have no interest in buying retail organ emulation like Charlie, because I think the free ones sound just as good. I must compliment the creator of these vstis, you have done an excellent job! You have really shown what Synthedit is capable of. If you charged for them they would be worth the price. One nagging thing I noticed was that Trio sounded different in 3 different hosts. The hosts were CM Muzys, Magix Music Studio Deluxe 2004 and Tracktion. In Deluxe Trio sounds more subdued and its patches with overdrive have no bite. In the other two Trio is more lively with its overdrive patches causing meters to go red at times when pushed. Trio sounds more authentic in Tracktion and Muzys though slightly different tones. Does anybody have a clue to why this is? I tell anybody please download Mr. Ray and Organized Trio,you will not be sorry!

| ZioKiller | Posted: 3rd July 2004 06:54 | |||||||
Regarding tha wah problem: I've made no presets for MrRay because it's very simple to use. Only the fist one is programmed and all the others are "resetted". So if you turn on the wah on presets 2 and higher you have to set it to auto if you want it to be automatic, or use an external controller to play it. By default, it receives MIDI CC# 4 (expression pedal). I'm used to play it with my Korg Wavestation to which I can connect an expression pedal to "external control 1" input so it sends MIDI CC# to the midi out port. You may choose a different midi cc# for the wah by accessing the control panel of MrRay (click that brown button near the delay box). I know the wah needs an update... btw it works best in conjunction with the distortion
This is a good idea. I'll do something in the next release. (if any
Wow! When I was a child my uncle had an old Farfisa organ. I started loving music since then (I was I still love that sound and was thinking of doing a software version of it... I'd be nice

| bburtin | Posted: 5th July 2004 20:10 | |||||||
Thought I'd jump in with my (totally subjective) alternative point of view.
After hearing dozens of people gush about Mr. Ray, I immediately downloaded it, set my expectations extra-high, fired it up, and... it sounds pretty good. Didn't blow me away, but great for freeware. I've been playing MDA ePiano for a couple of years now. I agree that it's not the most realistic Rhodes sim, but it sounds more lively and cuts through a mix better than Mr. Ray does. I agree that Mr. Ray sounds more realistic. Maybe too realistic. Reminds me of the beat-up Rhodes I played at the local community college. Am I the only one that came to this conclusion? I'll play around with it some more. Maybe I just didn't have the knobs dialed in the way I like them. Boris
| Initializing Behaviours | Posted: 5th July 2004 23:59 | |||||||
That's not good, it's too realistic!
| peteralston | Posted: 6th July 2004 00:32 | |||||||
I know it's a bit rubbish of me, but if anybody has any presets they reckon are pretty good then I would be really grateful if could you put them up somewhere, or email them to me, I'm rubbish at this sort of thing

| griels | Posted: 6th July 2004 06:51 | |||||||
Try turning the tone knob all the way up, the alignment knob a bit to the right and the 'hardness' all the way up. Raise the tine levels a bit. Now tell me which sounds more lively? I'm sorry, Mr Ray sounds ALIVE. On reflection I think maybe Lounge Lizard is better on the whole, although the tines on this are pretty damn good... The hammer noise itself is a little 'squishier' and less realistic sounding than LL2. Still, both Mr Ray and MDA epiano are both free, so you're at liberty to use the latter. Weirdo.
| TristezaOrange | Posted: 6th July 2004 07:04 | |||||||
Well, since my PC's stone-age technology, I'll be playing real-time on mda epiano and then I'll bounce the track through Mr Ray. [my PC struggles to play one [one] That's not to say I will not be using mda ePiano in a final mix anymore, it's a great instrument and friend. It's just that now I have a new toy too. Yipee
| Manc Chris | Posted: 6th July 2004 07:18 | |||||||
Nope. Using VST and no sign of velocity sensitivity in Mr Ray. Don't know how everyone else is coping, but I cannot use a piano without it!?!?!
| ZioKiller | Posted: 6th July 2004 07:50 | |||||||
What do you mean for "no sign of velocity sensivity"? Are you telling that it does not respond to your keyboard's velocity? If so, it's very strange.. I don't have that kind of problem (cubase sx2 + korg wavestation)
| Manc Chris | Posted: 6th July 2004 08:44 | |||||||
yes, thats correct.
It accepts velocity signals in visual format - IE, I can look at the notes using the VST editor and they are all different velocity levels - however - audibly, the volume of all notes is same? I have even used the pencil tool to drag the velocities down in the editor, but it makes no difference.
| griels | Posted: 6th July 2004 09:01 | |||||||
Uh, it's soft if I tap the keys, barks like a dog if I whack 'em. What host/keyboard are you using? It might help to use a semi-weighted or weighted keyboard with Mr Ray. The response curve may not be what you are used to... It's pretty nonlinear. Re: the Organ and velocity sensitivity... Organs don't typically have velocity sensitivity... Although of course it's nice to have.
| Manc Chris | Posted: 6th July 2004 09:17 | |||||||
I am using VST 5.1 and a Edirol/Roland PC 180 keyboard. I have no other such issues with any other vsti ... although there is usually an option onboard the vsti to turn velocity sens up/down/on/off. Not so with Mr Ray it seems

Yup..! I can confirm this. Open Mr Ray in Logic, play one note, and.... (place horrible, non-musical noise here) Mr Ray sounds good in Chainer (stand alone), everything works fine there. It's a nice Rhodes sound, any chance of fixing it so it works in Logic...? Haven't tried Organized, but probably won't bother if fella says it does the same thing.
