Believe me man - Absynth will blow your fuckin sox off, you'll forget the Oddity and everything else for awhile Smile

Be sure to sign up for the Yahoo group. Brian (Absynths creator) hangs out there and theres some awesom pearls of wisdom thrown about. A friendlier bunch I have yet to meet!!!

Do me a favour John? Download the Biomechanoid banks. I'd love to hear what they would sound like in the Vurts hands!

You wont regret it - I wish I was playing Absynth for the first time again Smile

Ahh yes. I love my MS2000r... Love I will never sell it. It has a brilliant layout for synthesis programming and the modulation matrix allows for some awesome effects. The 3 track step sequencer lets you to control almost everything, including the included 64 digital waveforms allowing for some cool wave-sequencing style patterns. The polyphony is not high, but the quality is good. I am almost finished with a little song using nothing but the MS2000r (and the ER-1 for a little synthetic percussion). It did require laying the tracks down one at a time, but the results were worth it. Smile

-Tronam

PS: Oh yeah, good choice on Absynth. It's an excellent soft synth, albeit a little strange to program (for me anyways).

For that matter, it's curious to me why they don't host patch uploads for ALL the synths, it's not like they're gonna eat up alotta space...

First....congrats to Vurt for getting hold of Absynth. As other folks have mentioned....a match made in heaven.... or somewhere similar Very Happy Looking forward to hearing the results, and hope you have lots of fun. (Altho' I dont think I've commented on ur trax previously Embarassed , I've liked pretty much everything I've heard....only recently got broadband and been able to tune in to the cafe)

Second.... erm...just to be clear... the bank ew is refering to is an Abs V2 bank I provided to NI, and AFAIK they still have plans to use it one way or t'other, and I wouldn't say they've necessarily 'dropped the ball' as such....but they certainly are taking their time Very Happy ....what exactly they use them for is entirely up to them. A few people I've collaborated with have copies of this bank, but thats it at the moment, and its certainly NOT in the public domain, until NI decide otherwise.

The 'bonus bank' refered to was a mini bank I emailed to anyone who donated for my last public domain bank....therefore quite an exclusive Laughing Crying or Very sad Rolling Eyes

I'm *almost* finished a new 128 patch V2 bank which will be available from www.infinitetrajectory.co.uk....."soon" Laughing Embarassed I'm planning to provide all the old banks there too, but in the meantime, you can download my most recent public domain bank from the absynth users group @ yahoo..... the older banks have been moved here:

Aww, but the microKorg takes almost all of the fun out of the instrument (at least for me) by gutting it's brilliant interface layout, stripping it down to 1/4th as many buttons and knobs, halfing the number of vocoder bands and removing the multi-track step sequencer which not only triggers notes but can modulate almost everything. The intuitive VA signal flow and hands-on mod matrix become buried within a small number of cheap multi-function buttons and knobs, while many of the finer details of the synth engine are completely inaccessible due to its crude, minimalistic red LCD that has to approximate alphabetical characters. I mean, why bother getting hardware at all if the interface is completely marginalized like this and the only way to truly control all of it's functions is through a software editor? You might as well just get a more powerful soft synth instead. Smile

Hmmm... I don't need much knops for that handfull of parameters, I guess my luck is that I worked with far less compfortable to use synths in the 80s and besides the Evolver the microKorg is the synth with most of the knobs in my setup... Wink
Vocoder wise I prefere Vokator and I mainly use the microKorg as small controller when soundprogramming and for outdoor use. It's fun having something else to play with while lying in the sun and the gf is sleeping Wink

yeah..not your typical ab patches, but more space-pad inclined. Not so wild. Ya gotta hold a chord for at least 30 seconds for the thing to evolve on some of them. Did try my hand at S%H RYMS however. A bit harder to master on the ab.Trying some wave importing now and using the grainulizer.

you should familiarize yourself with the copy/paste functions for the osc , filter , mods , envs , and channels ...

it can be quite fun to take parts of different patches , and re-assemble them ...

of course , don't forget the sampler and granular
oscillators , and importing you own waves ...

just a note:
from what i've read of the new Rhino specs , Tick has included some of these same functions into Rhino ...
that should be quite interesting as well ...

Oh yeah-there's just so much you can do with it.As normal said, become familiar with copying and pasting between patches.Start saving your favorite parts to the appropriate library, where you can just plug them into any patch after that.Spend some time with the envelopes-that's what makes Absynth as powerful as it is.You can use the pipe or multicomb effects and do VERY abstract physical models.
Even Symbiant's patches only scrape the surface of what can be done Smile
