Sorry guys....lol

Well...all the reviews are positiv mainly....I was hoping for a desenting voice from someone who wasnt happy with it....for whatever reason.

3gigs of samples to go with it....I paid $1200 for my XP-30 when it was new and it doesnt have that much samples/patches...

**Getting the checkbook out I guess....lol***

No, it really is very good. That's about all I can tell you. Pros - great sounds, high quality. Cons - LFOs don't sync to tempo despite promises they would, and this will only be addressed with a paid update due in 2037.

That assumes I'm actually waiting. I expect there will be some more presets to cover the fact that there will be syncable LFOs that should have been in the first release and were promised to follow shortly after. No offence Eric Persing but it will have to be really knockout for me to pay out again.

Whats the current status of this? When are we going to see these filters in the UVI engine? Anyone knows?

I'd be suprised if they ever put them in the UVI engine, thats 2 lots of licencing fees they'd have to pay.

Don't forget USB's Ultrafocus a 8Gb synth rompler that's had excellent feedback. I don't work for the company but if they want to donate UF to me for these lovely words of praise then I'll be their fanboy and whore for life. Shit!

Whoa dude - they updated Atmosphere already - not too long ago. The LFO's sync now - well at least every LFO button has a separate sync light that lights up when you press it - works from what I can tell. The LFO sync fix also applies to Trilogy:

http://www.spectrasonics.net/news/LFO_spectra.html

As for the GMedia filters - from what I've heard, those come out in September 2004 with the next update wave.

Okay, I can give a ...for whatever reason. Not that they aren't world class F/X but most everything is wetter than I'd like. I'm not really unhappy about it but I like moist better than drowned.

You won't find many negative reviews of Atmosphere because everyone who buys and uses it loves it - me included. I mainly use it for strings, lush pads, ambient fx and when I need some really nice textures. Yeah, and the new update fixes LFO sync.

i demoed it more than once

didnt take to it at all - too harmonic dull long patches - you cant do organic dripping or metal on blackboard scrapings becuase the samples just arent there

and almost all the patches will need eq to get them into a mix

and unlike ultra-focus there isnt a whole lot you can do bar filter them after that

frankly very overrated

trilogy on the other hand is pure genius

Bollocks! I guess you did not get past the demo stage, but I guess for some styles of music Atmosphere is not going to give you sounds that "cut through" a mix. But I'd score it 10/10 for patch quality - Eric Persing has done an outstanding job with this - the quality of the programming and the samples just shine.

I have UltraFocus too - I use them both. Frankly I love these two products and could not choose between them; they're quite complimentary really.

it wasnt cutting through the mix that was the problem

its swamping it

i will repeat vastly over-rated

and i tried so hard to like it

Well, there's really not much wrong with it! Smile
There was the LFO sync thing, but apparently they've now fixed that ... there were issues with getting Atmosphere to recognise the new location of the giant DAT file if you moved it, but now you can apparently put in a shortcut to the new location and the plugin will read that. The size of the library file is an issue, but there's not a lot you can do about that ... I think that the display really ought to show both partial names at the same time, that's an annoying oversight IMO. I guess my main grumble with it is that there are so many great patches in there using large (long load time) samples, that it takes forever to browse the library, and I know that I'll probably never get to hear half of the library!
So some sort of audio preview function whereby Atmosphere creates a database of crappy half-second 8kHz mono 8-bit previews of all the patches, so that when you wave the mouse over the library list you hear preview snippets jumping out at you that relate to whatever patch name is currently under the mouse ... I think that that would have made it dramatically easier to find a suitable patch quickly. But that's quibbling, really.

Certainly one of the reasons why I like UltraFocus better; there really is minimal to no load time for the patches.

hey now, can't we all just get along?

but listen, atmosphere is great depending on what kind of music u do, imo. atmosphere has great sounds that make me want to try my hand at some mark isham ecm type film scoring... heck, w. atmosphere, stylus, and a good trumpet player you'd be 90% there!!! and atmosphere is the most fun synth to just go through the presets... it basically blows hardware synth pads out of the water with every mouse click (i'm talking jupiters, d50's, m1's, k2x's, tritons, trilogys, etc.... and its almost ALL pads)...

however, for MY music, atmosphere is one of the least used of my vst's. it's as if the beauty of the sounds are shortchanged in my 120bpm creations, and other synths, like absynth2, minimoogv, get used more.

so, b4 getting it, think about what kind of music you make, and whether or not you can ::use:: as opposed to just gawking at it.
