Neither do I but just for the record I would mention Maxx Claster's Bazzoid.

Very Happy The Claw will shred anything...

This is A1 first class free stuff from ReFX, if you get hooked you can buy the Beast!, kindof a mutant double claw.

Smile Or check out Odo's various synths at:
http://odosynths.panicnow.net/
Some of his older vsts can definitely get down n dirty.

Screamer SC-1, the last word in screaming bhaaaassstard synths. Of course, its an ORION Platinum native synth so you'll need to buy ORION.

Try the ReFX synths (i think the one you want is Plastix or something) also Albino by Rob Papen is wicked and has a few presets called DnB bass as starting points(it's a demo but it's a full version except for a whoosh noise every minute or so.

Hydra
original flipper
Posted: 14th July 2004 04:15
Hi

Hydra was called junglist in a previous incarnation -so try that - also Bazzoid for basses - this is cheap and lethal; tweak the filter,Q and drive and your in a town called MAYHEM!

Claw/beast are also good for basses/leads.

Flipper.

Hydra is a bit unique that it has a few extra contols just for bass. nice punch

my choice for the raunchier basses these days is Tera 2. with the additive spectrum it's capable of a lot of harmonic edge, as well as low end punch. Also does a nice clean bass.
if still remotely possible the free microTera coverdisc can cover most of the same territory for free.

another freebie that seems to have dropped off the radar is Grease Tube from daniel drummer. That's capable of adding compression and distortion at the same time and would seem ideal for this.

It's Trilogy every time for really dark, filthy, scary basses that are so grimey that when you use them in a tune you need to employ a cleaning company to visit the studio afterwards and clean up! The bottom end is immense for those kind of sounds. Wink

6.

Virsyn Tera has always come up with the goods in that dept for me. But really anything with sine wave oscillators for that deep sub sound and some distortion before it hits the filter should do the trick.

mda ePiano (don't think of it as a Rhodes, think of it as a starting point for nasty effects). Vivaldi MX. Triangle II. Claw. PlastiCZ. QuadraSID. z3ta+. Lizard. (micro)TERA. Yarkor.

you might also want to try adding some FX to your existing basslines to get the tone you want...

definately try SuperCamelPhat- there's also a free version of it that has only two faders- one for compression, and one for distortion- but i find this needs a bit of EQ to sort out the low end.. but the full version has heaps of nice features, including a "magic" EQ and variable band pass filter. Very Very nice as an insert over your basses...

You can honestly make grimey noises with just about anything. Here are a few golden tips for ya, and it's all up to you to explore to your fullest potential.

a) Learn how to program synths. If you can do this, you can make gold out of the shitest synths, or OTOH, make shite out of the best synths.

b) Learn to use effects. That's 90% of getting "grimey" sounds.

c) Learn to layer sounds. That's a very good way to get interesting and original (and huge) sounds.

I hope that gives ya a good starting point. One last thing - google is your friend.
