Do you mean the increasing CPU load with time?
Nimmy
Posted: 19th July 2004 04:09
Yes, the CPU load.

No disrespect intended to the G-Media folks, but isn't Mtron just a very simple sample-playback synth? Its been out for years, and its hard to understand how they can still be finding bugs in it...

haven't noticed that on the mac at all. is this is pc only thing, or actually a P4 only thing??? like a denormal?
Meffy
Posted: 19th July 2004 08:02
I haven't noticed any trouble. Does anyone have details? Specifics, that is?

It`s simple to describe:
The longer you play it, the more CPU power it consumes until the `puter
crashes

Will do!

[edit] Hm, don't think that's happened to me but maybe it's just that the conditions weren't right. Or wrong, rather. Hm. Thanks for the info -- don't know how I missed that thread the first time 'round.

every once and again, the CPU usage increases on the order of 4-10x, and one instance of Mtron will eat 30-40% of my CPU unless I reload the plugin. There was a thread a few months ago and they are looking into it. It is not your typical P4 denormal issue as it also happens on my AMD processor.

Whoa. O_o That I would have noticed, as I've so little CPU to spare (old 1.7 GHz Vaio). Thanks for the additional details. I'll try an M-Tron project or two and keep an eye peeled.

Yes, I'd noticed that in the other thread. Odd indeed.

It is a puzzlement.

You name it: The thread is already a couple of months old and the bug still exists - In a simple sample player like
Deastman already remarked.

Hey, ONE reason to say hurray!!! today!
I use M-Tron very often and thought high CPU-consuming was just normal on my humble machine Very Happy . By the way, I registered Mtron 2003 and never get any mail, not from 4.0 to 4.1 or to4.5-version. Any one who gets update-infos?

cheers to you all, I'll search my old 4.1 now until the update comes...

I love the sound of this plugin, Gmedia have been tradionally been very very helpful, but the CPU consumption is worrying. It's kept me from using it seriously in any projects so far. I've got a PIII, never had a denormal problem before. M-Tron just starts eating away, and if I don't notice it and stop my project, shut down my host (Chainer or FLStudio)and reload before I hit the 60-70% mark, my computer crashes hard (horrible screeching noise, inability to shut down Windows). That means no songs over the two minute mark for me.
I bought it at version 4.5, is 4.1 still available on the Gmedia site?
Can I just replace the 4.5 .dll with the 4.1 .dll? I ask because I had a hell of a time installing 4.5 in the first place.
Andreas E, how soon is soon?[/b]

I`m into prog rock, that`s why I bought the M-Tron in the first place. When I first noticed this problem I was using an Intel PIV and thought it to be the denormalisation problem the Intels suffering from. When the problem continued
on my new AMD system I stopped using
the M-Tron and switched to the Mellotron
samples from EMU which are actually very good. Perhaps this could help you, Cordelia, making longer tracks than two minute ones.

Did you tell your problems to G-Media in the past? 4.1 isnīt available anymore. You could have installed the different versions side by side (I do it).

I donīt know how soon. I only can tell that yesterday I got the new version for testing purposes and it works flawlessly.

Normally Dave Spiers is watching the threads here - maybe heīll give an answer?

Nimmy,
Thanks for the tip. I'm going to check out the EMU samples. Are they avaiable if I go to the EMU web site? Any link?
AndreasE, I never got a chance to try the 4.1 version. I had quite a bit of trouble installing 4.5 as it was. If I remember correctly, you were very helpful to me, getting it to install at all. Smile
I just emailed Dave Spiers to report my version of the problem. Maybe that information will be of some help. I have faith in Gmedia. In the past, the customer service has been top notch.

Cordelia,

Sorry I forgot to mention that I have fortunately an EMU sample CD.
If you don`t get the samples from EMU`S
website (and I don`t know if the CD is still availlable) p.m. me with your email address and I`ll send you the samples
in Halion format.

Thanks Nimmy,
I just got an email from Dave Spiers. As usual, Gmedia are being fantastic. Looks like there'll be a bug fix soon (as AndreasE suggested). Anyway, Nimmy, I really appreciate your offer, but I think I'll wait a bit.
I think I've posted it before, but I have to say, Gmedia has the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.
