I use Dr. Rex all the time, but recently heard the Korg Electribe (ES-1) in a music store. Man it sounded cool! What about making a loop in Dr. Rex (from a previously Rex'd up file), exporting the loop... and loading it into the Electribe. I think the Electribe could sync to MIDI Clock so you could just dumb your Electribe mix back into Cubase SX or something of that nature.
Anyone here ever tried stuff like this?

I do stuff like that all the time - but I send stuff from FLS & Tuareg - not reason.

I own the electribe ES1. There's nothing on the electribe that you can't do in a regular sampler.. Plus the electribe is only 32khz sample rate. It's certainly doable, but there's no real advantage.

Thanks White Noise, that's exactly what I was wondering about. I just thought maybe it had some cool effects that I could use. Not all software samplers that I've seen come with things like bit crusher effects, etc.
Do you ever even use your ES-1 if you can do the same thing(s) in software? Also... maybe you could help in answering my question about NIN's use of white noise in the following thread: http://www.kvr-vst.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=610751 Thanks again White Noise!

Aside from the ability to go anywhere & sample anything with it! The sample quality isn't sharp, but it has its uses. With a remote control car battery pack & a customized adapter I can sample & play for a couple of hours in a park, on a plane or whereever I want.

How are you sampling with the ES-1? Using a seperate mic and preamp or something?

Yup! | ||

Sure, which is why I own it.. It sounded like he just wanted to use it for production, not gigging traveling.

For the price of what an ES-1 costs, wouldn't it be much better to buy a minidisc or an ARCHOS player, and sample with that?

Not necessarily. It sort of depends on what you want to do. If you wanted to just record for sampling in the computer, then you are right. If you want an instrument, then I'd say that the ES-1 is much better. The ES-1 isn't going to do anything special that Reason doesn't do already - other than give you a physical interface to work with. It has limitations that are restrictive yet creative in its own way. |
