I just ordered... What the hell am I doing, I am so poor! but I made the mistake of listening to some of the loops, and then I heard the demo of the first synth on the page (the special War Drums VST's page) and that was IT... I couldn't help myself. http://platonicworld.com/wardrumz/index.htm Well, I am a little freaked out financially, but I am very very very happy to have this coming to me. s:b

Just goes to show, there's no accounting for taste... kidding. but really, sucked for what? POP, yes. Classic rock, sher! experimental (emphasis on mental) electronic and other things that I work on under differnt pseudonyms? NO fucking Way! You wanna know what sucks for me? All the retarded sample disks out there that offer NOTHING that interests me. But like I said there's no acounting for taste; mine included. so just be happy for me, 'kay? 'cause this stuff is exactly what I have consistently failed to find with other sample disks. Cheerz, all.

I wasn't impressed with what I heard either, TBH..all the drum stuff sounded very weak to me.
But I can understand the sheer bulk of what you recieve bieng attractive..you can always tweak this stuff yourself I guess..& you get a handfull of VSTi, so.. I'm happy for you too.

Quite a while ago, I started developing an Acid loop CD for Sonic Foundry which sounds quite a bit like some of this War Drumz stuff. As time wore on, SF started releasing tons of CDs every month, and by the time I was 75% finished with my CD, I realized that the potential profits from such as disc were next to nil. That, and I just lost interest I bring this up because all the War Drumz samples I listened to sound like the sort of thing I could easily cook up myself in no time at all. I would be more inclined to buy a CD of realistic drums performed by a competent drummer- something I could never do myself. So my question is basically, why buy a CD of mangled drum loops when you can easily create the same thing yourself, and have fun in the process?

If spoonboiler liked what he heard then War Drumz reach a certain audience.

It depends on where your priorities and time are. If you are busy and don't have time or desire to fuck up sounds then what you hear is what you can use. Besides, maybe they can be fucked up even more.
Have fun with them G.

That's the shizzat! I heard the potential to throw these into Dicer, and those who know the Dicer will know what I can do to them then! Anyway, yeah, I could do it myself. Anyone who has heard my music will know that I do. But I am in a really demanding college course now and am suddenly able to understand why people might use presets. I used to say exactly what you guyz are saying about presets in synths. "Why would you use them, when you could make your own??? they call it a synthesizer, so why don't you synthesize something?" Same thing with romplers. But I have a nasty schedule now, and so haing SOME of the work done already is making a LOT more sense. Anyway, if you know my music you know I leave almost nothing in it's native form. Frankly I really like these sounds and if you read the info you can see that many of the samples are drum sounds as well as loops. I do my own rythm programming 99 percent of the time. even a lot of my "sampled" breakbeats have mostly been programed and pieced together. sigh... I don't know why I feel defensive about this. It's no big deal, I just thought that it was a cool disc. if I am the only one, then that's really not a problem. Sorry guyz, I didn't mean to get bristly over it.

Can't be that bad for $35, with a few entry level synths included. You can barely get a SF loop disc for this price (student discount included). Plug them into the dicer and be the editor instead of the writer, the goal is the same...a finished piece of work. I am curious, however, what dicer you use and why. I am also curious if someone has ever used or heard that Whiskey, Cigarettes & Gumbo loop CD, I could never picture myself using a guitarloop on a song (being a guitarist) but from what I heard I think one could definently pickup some chops and effects advice from it, used as a learning tool. (Just an early morning thought

No need to get defensive, I was merely curious what the appeal of the CD was.
I can totally relate to the topic of using presets in songs. I tend to shy away from "one note song" presets, but if I find a nice string pad preset, why shouldn't I use it... just because someone else has already tweaked the parameters and come up with a sound which I probably would have arrived at myself anyway? No shame in using presets, in the end its only the overall song which matters.

If you can make any given sound sit in a mix, and not sound 'out of place', then who cares whether its a preset or not?
In the end, its the notes/rhythm that control the sound that will determine how effective it is anyway.

If you can't see the usefulness of such sounds, then there is really nothing to explain. We obviously come from VERY different places musically. And for that, what can I say? I'm thankful. Life would be hella boring if we all listened to teckno or whatever. s:b
