AuthorTopic: 'transwave' quorum and free 'rompler'

as david haupt churns out more sampling modules, y'all are about to be inundated with synthedit transwave/wavetable synths.

i invite you to share your thoughts on the following:

(first off.. 'wavetable' doesn't always indicate the 'file scanning synthesis' technique the term describes in eg. waldorf synths.. 'transwave' is, or was licensed.. perhaps sticking with 'transwave' may be construed as complimentary. agreed? agreed. i did say quorum :p)

the whole big thing about single wavecycle/small cycle count sampling is finding a nice, neat sampling frequency. the form i and another se dev implicate is to sample everything tuned at 441Hz (well actually 110.25 but..) instead of 440.. that way you get a nice, tidy 100 samples for 1 cycle (400 samples per wavecycle at 110.25) the results sound as clean and alias-free as any sampling ever imo.

now.. as a convention for user-loadable transwave synths, this seems reasonable.. most synths/noise sources people have should be flexible enuff to tune up a cent..

what do you think? cos this is for y'all, freeware transwave modulatin' lobster rodeoin' stuf. vote yes on prop. 441

hokay, here's the freeware

here's the deal (i always mention the shitty stuff first, so if you get bugged, ur loss)

i can't, no one for the fuck of me seems to be able to embed waves in vsti atm, so in order for this to make noise, you have to locate and load the wavefile on each use (jsut once, save it as a patch) otherwise the bitch is silent.

i'm not happy about this, but works.

50 dual-cycle waveforms. this is NOT a transwave synth, and only has one sample per scale, so no 'real rompler multisampling' in this one (you wanna do it, se is ready for u)

so ~ a custom-waveform va.. now.. the samples are 2 cycles. you can lock it to 1 cycle mode ('2nd cycle' button oc only engages in 1 cycle mode) you'll hear 2 cycles has a typical romplery 'more wiggly' sound with some undertones an stuf.

the last group of samples (marked with a 2Smile are either an octave deeper or have some significant modulation.. usually they go up an octave when you lock them to 1 cycle.

again.. this isn't supposed to modulate the waveforms in use.. coming soon (if nt later today depending on who does what) ..just for some extra freebie waveforms. i'll update this as soon as i can get the wave successfully embedded.

Just in case you didn't feel like getting out the calculator...the difference between 441 Hz and 440 Hz is about 3.9 cents.

Small enough for me!

Anyway, I'd love to try out this synth, but I'm in the process of going through my VSTi folder and deleting as many of them as I can...I got way too many...when things are more under control, I'll give it a try!

cheers. if sounds nice, cpu agreeable, would be nice to know.

just so everyone's clear.. this instrument isn't out of tune.. the 441Hz is adjusted to 440Hz internally. if you develop with synthedit, that's a -.00328 to pitch..
