I installed Atmosphere & Stylus with no problems. I copied the Trilogy setup file to my desktop (Windows) and tried to install from there. "Unknown error" came up.
As much as I seen this problem occur for others, I've never seen what the solution is. I did search. If the answer is for me to search harder I will, but any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

One of my old room mates had this happen with Atmosphere. He had it running fine, but then had to install it on a new PC and couldnt get past the first disk. Bitch is i forgot if he ever got it sorted or not. Suppose you're best bet would be to give Spectrasonics a bell, cuz by the sounds of things this is a regular occurance.

thanks tee boy and I have called Spectrasonics ane emailed the newsgroup. As much as I've seen this happen it really upsets me that there's not a solution posted somewhere.

Bloody shame - I've heard enough of these reports here to keep me from buying it even though it's s'posed to sound fantastic. Hope the Spectrasonics folks have paid attention and have corrected this for Atmosphere 2 (whenever that comes out).
I've been hanging around this forum too long. I'm using words like "bloody" even though I'm an American, and never even been to England (though I once had a girlfriend from Manchester -- and have the scar to prove it!). Blimey! JD

Not to worry. I know Eric Persing frequents this board, and i wouldnt be suprised if he popped up here to offer a solution to this wee problem.
PS. Flugel, I hope got had a tetnus shot post incident with said Mancurian young lady. Never know where they've been round that neck of the woods!

Hello,
You may have seen a thread I posted on this just the other day regarding my problems with Trilogy install (my Atmosphere installed fine). I was initially having problems with disk 3, but after turning off Virus detection, it seemed OK. But I still get the Unknown error at the VERY END of the install (Disk 5, at like 100% complete). I tried Safe Mode install, which Tech Suppt suggested, and also tried copying the disks to my HD and installing from there. Both had the same Disk 5 problem (no change). I think the disk must be bad? Waiting on the reply from them to my latest email. Since it's a weekend, perhaps I won't hear till Monday. --Terry

Thanks all. Terry, yeah I saw you're thread and I know people have experienced similar problems.
For me its disk one, it completes maybe half of the data joining then comes the error. I realize it's the weekend but Spectrasonics' tech support doesn't mention days, just hours. I'm really hoping for a response. I'll post any thing that might help. Good luck to us both Terry.

I ran into that sort of problem when reinstalling Trilogy, and with me it turned out that there was something physically wrong with one of my CDRs. But a replacement CDR sorted it, it was just a bit annoying to have to go all the way through the installation process before being told about the error at the end!
The good news is that if you have installed it once, and already have the DAT file on HD somewhere, you don't have to go through the whole process from scratch, you can just install the program itself off the first disc, cancel the rest of the installation, copy across the beeeg DAT file from wherever you have it, and then tell the program where to find the file. Much easier! I now have all my installation discs tucked away somewhere safe and will probably never have to touch them again. (beams)

I think it is a CD problem. I didn't even look at it, but there's a gash on the first disk. Sigh, back to Guitar Center.

Well it was just a defective disk. I am so irritated with myself for not inspecting the disc sooner, but I've just seen too many threads lately that had problems with installation of this thing.
Well the hassle was certainly worth it. I love these sounds and I'm really impressed. Pricey? Very but now I realize how dissatisfied I really have been in my bass sounds. Good luck Terry, I know how irritating this can be. I just hope you'll be as happy as I am with Trilogy.

Hey, declan.
I'm glad yours is working now. I got an email saying they are sending me a replacement Disk 5. Let's hope that does the trick! I'm really encouraged to hear how much you like the sounds. Getting excited about it! Thanks for your support. --Terry

Well Spectrasonics sent me a replacement Disk 5, and I installed it successfully last night on the first try! So it was indeed a bad disk . . .
I'd hoped for a DVD with the whole dat file on it, but oh well! Trilogy does sound amazing, and I really like the way it works. My only issue now will be fitting everything I need into RAM at once (but that's another thread . . .) --Terry

Glad you got it working. Trilogy really does amaze me.

FWIW I am having the 99%/Disk 5 error right now - been through 3 installs, on the 4th now - will edit this and let you know how it goes. BTW I am watching the DAT file being built by refreshing the dir where I'm storing it - at 2.513 Gb now (Disk 4)
Edit 1: 2.7 Gb (Disk 5) ... holding my breath ...BTW no obvious dings/scratches/etc on the CD's either... 2.933 Gb ... 3.029 Gb ... 3.065500 Gb and holding - looks like it's wrapping up ... CD is spinning and nothing is happening - no change is DAT file, but the install progress bar is not doing anything either ... I'll be dipped - "Unknown Error" and it's wiping the DAT file as I type this. Damn. You know, for a product this expensive this should not be happening. Edit 2: Got a call into Spectrasonic tech support. Awaiting callback. In the interim, I'm copying everything to my hard drive to try an install from there. Edit 2a: Got a callback - good guy on the other end of the line. They are suggesting safe mode install. I was in the Disk 5 copy process and it was hanging. Got a feeling it's corrupt, but I will try safe mode first. Edit 3: Safe Mode install failed on Disk 1 - never made it to Disk 2, let alone Disk 5. I tried Safe Mode install twice. I then emailed Michael at Spectrasonics tech support - nice guy and very professional. Within 10 minutes I got an email back - they are FedEx'ing a new disk set. Can't ask for any better than that. Very happy with the response.

Gnu,
You are *exactly* describing the problem I had. Sorry to say, but you need to get with Tech Support (or your retailer?) to get a replacement disk 5 (or a whole new box?). Once I did that, it worked fine on the first try. The total Dat file is like 3.8 mb or so, fyi. Annoying how many bad copies are out there, eh? What a debacle! You'll love Trilogy, though! Good luck! --Terry

You mean Atmosphere? Trilogy is about 3.1 or 3.2 gigs. Atmosphere is 3.8 gigs. Devon

See Edit 3 in my previous post for details - long and short, tech support at Spectrasonics was great even though we could not work out the issues in this disk set - they are FedEx'ing a new set to me. Hey, even though this issue seems to be a "repeater", I own Atmosphere and Stylus - I know Trilogy is going to be great once I get a good install and I am happy with Spectrasonics tech support. Thanks for all the helpful suggestions gang - much appreciated. |
