AuthorTopic: CreakBox Public Beta

I did a public beta release hereby:

CreakBox Beta1

Please read the included text file carefully and do a beta test ONLY on stable private systems, never on sensitive or running production systems!

This is a "PC only" release.

(Existing "first hand" beta testers, please note: This is still the same build you already have. There is no need to reload.)

Please post all found bugs and requests here.

known bugs:

- If a pattern has a slide in the first and the last note, the pattern runs into silence after the first cycle.

- VST automation of switching a pattern is not possible yet. Please use MIDI program change to automate pattern switching freeley.

- MIDI automation may not work always right with the new Extensions. This is the case with FilterMode, SaturationMode and DelayPattern (all popup controls). VST automation should work in those cases.

- some opcodes seems to be instable, causing the processor to run into NAN state. This is not critical for the plugins and the hosts stability. Please save the current patch, unload and reload the plugin in such cases.

not a bug, but intention:

- parameter sets are not stored with the patterns to be able to freeley automate a tune via VST automation or MIDI control change.

parameter sets (states) are stored with a patch and inside the sound bank as for complete song recall.

Is there a way to make it run in sync in Energy XT? - the play button works but not the sync one.

Nice work here! A couple of gui suggestions for you.

The keyboard at the bottom would be easier to program if it looked like a real keyboard with the black keys offset a bit such as on a real keyboard. The buttons for the slide and accent would look better if they resembled round LEDs. Perhaps RED for the chaser lights, amber for the slide and blue for the accent. The knobs are nice.

It would be great if there could be a global kill for the delay which would override the presets. Ideally on the main screen thus avoiding a mouseclick.

The enhancements (especially the filters) are great and add a lot to the sound) , i think radio style buttons instead of a popup menu would be better for flter selection, again with LEDS indicating the filter selection.

This is a great project. Many thanks for sharing this with us and for putting in the hours.

Your description of the bugs were spot on. I like the sound of the filters and the interaction of the flter and resonance controls. It may not be a clone but it sounds very good to my ears. Looking forward to further releases.

Many thanks,

Scott Harris

People!

We have seen, there are over 200 downloads of the CreakBox beta 1 till now.

The only way to download it, was via this forum or the german Keyboards forum.

The feedback support for the development team on the other side is limited to 6 persons till now...

This is weak. Really. Mad

Maybe we are getting a little spoiled with the generosity of the developers as of late. I hope that this doesn' die because we are taking your hard work for granted. People speak up, try it out and give some feedback. This is a unique project and I would love to get those patterns working with a spiffy gui and fewer bugs. What a bonus and what a price!

Doesnt respond to MIDI notes from controller kybd, and doesnt play notes inserted into piano roll in Orion Platinum.

I assigned the Cutt Off to a MIDI knob on my controller. the movement is very sloppy, the knob looks like its gonna fall off the GUI Laughing

Also, it has a tendancy to sit there and wobble slightly and sometimes swing right round and back again.... Confused

Switching from Run to sync stops the pattern, even tho the host is 'running'

Switching back to run, the pattern starts again.

Oh, thank you very much Kriminal!

Some answers here:
- It is conceptual, that CreakBox don't react to MIDI real time playing. It is a sequenced bass synthesizer ala TB303. We also discussed this many times and came to this decision finally. Passing notes to the synth has no effect (yet).

- The knobs you obviously don't like are for most other users the only thing they really liked. So this seems to be a matter of taste. What shall we do?

- The emphasizing of the current delay implementation will be fixed in the next release. So wobbeling arround can be removed by switching it to mono.

- We cannot do anything, if your host does sloppy automation via MIDI control. I guess, it's a host bevavior? Be carefully with (re)assigning MIDI to CreakBox controls, because those are already hardwired with MIDI controllers! Doing it twice may cause those problems.

- we tested on Grandmothers reference host, so the sync should work. If not, then is this perhaps a different host's behaviour? We still need more user feedback esp. for the sync behavior of the CreakBox. It seems, that many hosts handle this feature very different and even not in the way like intended...

Seems, you have to wait for "devilswhisper".
There we will do something more fitting your expectations (realtime playing, other knobs and so on).

Thank you very much for doing beta test!
We highly appreciate it.

haven't touched it yet, but I know there's been a bit of an issue with sync in eXT as of late, so don't worry about that bit. May give it a try and report back later
