Impulse is a nice synth.
The Organ is free now also - its also really good IMO,
quite a competition even for the bigger names...

Yay!

I always liked the randomizer in Impulse, with its random name generator. Very Happy

It used to be it was free in mono mode, but you had to pay to get the poly version...has that changed?
Must admit, I always liked the character of Impulse. Never got around to buying it, but must do that some day soon. It's got a lovely aggressive filter and overdrive on it.

Excellent news indeed! Shit!
I also will feed frenziedly when I get home. Very Happy
Although I liked Impulse just in mono mode, it certainly is a heap more powerful with pads in poly. It could now become one of my favoured pad synths.

Whoever it was - thanks for the heads-up. One of the most satisfying pieces of news for quite a while.

This is great news, for us. But what about for the developer?

It has some very loud noise bursts in Tracktion, anyone else had this problem?

the release rates for the envelopes are ignored here when played with my midi keyboard (Roland D50) in eXT (played as if release was always set to 0)...

I especially like how useful the presets are... nice mix of warm analog and digital-sounding presets.

wow sounds promising.

can it compete with the free-monsters? (i'm referring to synth 1, crystal, ugo motion, polyblit...)

Both Organ One and Impulse are very good, with some really excellent presets - somewhere near the top of the freebie tree. Thanks to the author for making them free.

I don't how I could have ignored Impulse before. It has the one thing I ask of a synth-character. It has a nice sound that will compliment other synths very well. I have to put it in the top 5 free synths at this point. The preset management system is excellent and so far it's worked perfectly in all my hosts. Big thanks to Bojo for making this free. Very Happy

Impulse was out before Synthedit even existed, from what my patchy memory tells me Wink

To me it compares better than Synth1, simply, because it has its own character. Not quite as heavy on the features, but then I find it can actually do a wider range of timbres than Synth1. It's living proof that good filters don't have to have a huge dB/Oct boost - try the 12dB/Oct LPF on Impulse and you'll find it sometimes gives more aggressive sounds than the 24dB/Oct one. And the overdrive is a real peach - makes it difficult to sit in a mix sometimes, but it certainly adds some power to any aggressive lead patch. Possibly this type of soft overdrive is something that more devs should pay attention to...impOSCar has 2 advantages over all other competition - excellent filters and a smooth subtle overdrive. Impulse ain't as good on the filters, but the overdrive gives it a run for its money, and makes harder patches than many commercial VSTi's I've heard.

Impulse can't really compete in the same breath as Crystal - it's a completely different beast geared towards a different sound IMO.

PolyIblit - I dunno...could never get Polyiblit to not crash my system Confused

All I know is that with Impulse, if you use 12dB/Oct LPF, some overdrive, set the resonance to alot, and you get some screeching acid leads/lower-mid/basses. Wink Puts something like Rebirth to shame.

impOSCar, Impulse, Claw and a set of 909 samples and it takes me back to acieed heaven hehehehehe Razz

This is a really nice synth. Thanks to the developer for giving it away for free. The overall sound is very nice (lovely filters) and it is quite low on cpu usage.

Thanks Bojo and keep up the great work!
