Probably a professional quality piece of kit. Something stretching into the thousands perhaps? (He probably recorded it in a professional recording studio - but I doubt he sequenced the backing)

no... the point is that usher and petey pablo don't use any instruments. they have producers who write the music for them. LIL JON who "produced" "Yeah" is big into the Nord sound. buy a Nord Lead 3 and you will maybe be able to sound like him. i don't know who produces petey pablo... i think he worked with timbaland before, and he's into the yamaha motif and pro tools manipulation... chances are though, if you have a motif and an MPC with a massive library you compiled over many years, you'll be able to sound like every hip-hop track on the radio.... if you write decent tracks and take them to a $1000 a day studio with pro tools HD and an SSL console.... you'll also need to hire a really quality engineer to mix your tracks for you and send them off to an ultra highend mastering house.

Isn't that just an open sawtooth on "Yeah"? I thought it was a pretty ordinary sound. Forever, Kim.

I don't like those leads that are popular in rap right now. They sound like poorly programed juno synths (though i'm sure they aren't).
However, i think that all the popular rap songs with those leads and the low kicks (not always 808) come from the same author (I personally don't like them - a cheap melody in a poorly chosen synth lead with an 808 over it for the most part) i bet you could make those leads with triton or pro-53. Also, try one of Odo's synths for free.

Oh yeah ... crunk it up, baby!
It's a stock patch on an Emu XL-1. So says Lil' Jon himself in an interview I read. But it's so stylized a sound that the point of ripping it off eludes me ... unless you're trying to make instrumentals of the tracks for some reason. (stu.macQ)
