Anybody using any of the following VSTi:
- spook keys - the shepherd - clavia lab - string thing - retro-gs01 - retro-gs02 ?? If anybody is using these and has had time to play about with them in any depth, they are now all eligible for review in the database and I am always looking for feedback, positive or negative. So by way of a polite request - if anybody wishes to review any of them I would be grateful. Thanks

I have downloaded them a while ago, and used them too. But right now I am reinstalling my PC (at least the VST's and VSTi's).

Saul,
I just tried to add a review. But I must add 1000 characters minimum I'll post it here: http://www.simple-media.co.uk/ 1 - spook keys Nice GUI, easy to understand. Key in determines sweep from low up to played note, key out determines sweep from played note to low (about 20 Hz). Toying with these two knobs can make the note go up and down the spectrum slowly, or very fast. You ave quite a range, from a bit scary to extreme sweeps that scare a lot. Grabbing the dot on the scope let's it act like a theremin, sound cool. 2 - the shepherd Simple synth to simulate human whistling, it sounds just like that Kill Bill tune when you play the upper registers. Simple GUI with 6 knobs and 2 sliders, but I only like the default setting, I don't need the knobs. 3 - clavia lab Very nice GUI, cool sounds. 4 - string thing Simple but good GUI. The presets sound nice, but the don't simply sound like a nylon guitar, they more sound a bit like ethnic stringed instruments. It's a keeper for me, not because it sounds like a guitar - IMHO it doesn't, but more because it sounds so nicely bright.

I like String Thing quite a bit - the most realistic PM acustic guitar simulation i have heard so far (well, there aren that many... However, to my ears it is slightly detuned - this might also be a bug if running on other samplerates than 44, 1khz. Kind Regards, Richard

I am working on a new version, sort of extended under the working title physical thing, which should do more than just the guitars and may address the tuning issue - yes you are right about this, in the lower ranges the tuning is fine, but it begins to drift as you get higher and becomes quite flat, this is due to a practical limitation in the physical model used, but the new version may get around this, a little at least.

well still no reviews of string thing, spook keys and clavia lab, but thanks for the comments made so far - all are appreciated.
I wish more people could take time to review though as it is only by following feedback from users that I think I can make improvements to the work I am doing. I can understand why there would only be 1 review each for retro-gs01 and retro-gs02 as there have been only a few sales of this so most people do not meet KVR criteria for reviewing these, but the other stuff is free so I am quite surprised that there have been no reviews for them. Anyway, not here to complain, as I said thanks for all comments and feedback so far. |
